Ben Jackson leaves Huddersfield Town in permanent Barrow switch
The versatile wide man has completed a permanent move to League Two Barrow, where he will join loanee Neo Eccleston
Huddersfield Town academy graduate Ben Jackson has departed the club after nine years to seal a permanent move to League Two Barrow.
Jackson broke into the Town first team in 2020 after loan moves to Darlington, hometown club Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers.
After making 50 appearances for Town in a variety of wide roles and occasionally in central midfield, Jackson has now moved to Stephen Clemence’s side for an undisclosed fee.
Terriers head coach Michael Duff took Jackson to Austria as part of his travelling party last week, but the utility man did not make any appearances in Town’s three friendlies. He did, however, play against Emley and Guisley earlier in the summer.
Duff said in a club statement: “Ben has been incredibly professional and worked hard since we arrived at the club, but having introduced Mickel Miller to the squad and welcomed back Josh Ruffels from injury, his minutes would have become further limited next season.
“Working your way through an academy at a club is wholly commendable, and Ben deserves credit for that. I wish him well in his career going forward.”
Sporting director Mark Cartwright added: “Ben has been handed a number of opportunities at first team level over the past two seasons, and while his application has always been unquestionable, there is a consistency we need from our senior squad that hasn’t yet become part of his game.
“Now aged 23, it’s important for Ben to play regular first team football, which won’t be as available for him here following the signings we’ve made this summer. Having given the club nine years of dedicated service, I wish him all the very best in the future.”
Town also announced earlier on Tuesday that Neo Eccleston had joined Barrow on a season-long loan.
Sorba Thomas has meanwhile completed a loan move to Nantes, which includes an option for the French top-flight side to turn it into a permanent move.
Donate to Wander 2 Wanderers
While I’ve got you, I just want to ask if you have two minutes and a few quid to spare for a very good cause. I’ll be taking part in the second day of Wander 2 Wanderers in September, walking the final ten miles to the away game against Bolton Wanderers to raise money for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
You can make a donation here - any amount gratefully received.
Even better, if you’re interested in signing up for the walk, details on how to sign up for the walk are here. Thanks!
