Five conclusions: Huddersfield Town leave us wanting more once again

The Terriers delivered a respectable away performance at Northampton, but could — and should — have taken more points

1. Thud, thud, thud. (That’s our head hitting the desk)

Please make it stop.

Surely we cannot go through an entire season having to say that we liked some aspects of Huddersfield Town’s performance and disliked others, only to conclude that they dominated the game but dropped points through avoidable goals caused by lapses in concentration.

But for at least one more game, that’s exactly what we must do.

Northampton’s goal came from an excellent cross and an equally impressive volleyed finish. However, it could and should have been stopped either by Lee Nicholls or Lasse Sorensen.

The goalkeeper gets some minor relief from criticism for his hesitation, given the blustery conditions. If the ball were to deviate from where he thinks it’s going, he could end up looking even more foolish.

Even so, Sorensen has no real excuses. After a disappointing debut campaign, we’ve had little but muted praise to send the Dane’s way. After all, he has found consistency even in a side that has little. But he flashed back to last term here, switching off and letting the superbly-named Nesta Guinness-Walker waltz in and pick his spot.

Everything we knew about Northampton suggested that they are a very tough side to play against. This game showed exactly why they have one of the best defensive records in League One, as well as one of the worst attacking ones. In many ways, they are the polar opposite of Town.

Going a goal down so early was far from ideal, then. It immediately made it hard to imagine the visitors going on to win. So, so frustrating.
