Five conclusions: Huddersfield Town implosion allows Bolton to pickpocket three points

As watershed moments go, conceding two goals against Bolton Wanderers to squander three vital points at the Accu Stadium was an especially difficult one to fathom — but the fan reaction said it all

1. There is PLENTY to prove

“We don’t have points to prove. We want everybody with us. We don’t come out to get in the face of or to battle against anybody in the stands,” Lee Grant said in his pre-match press conference.

“These guys are with us. They’ve shown in the first 11 games the full spectrum of, you know, coming up north on a Tuesday night to Sunderland and trekking down to Exeter, and they’ve been there with us. They’ve been right behind us on that.

“They’ve shown disappointment at Barnsley, the result, and then they’ve been right behind the group. So they’ve seen all sides of it.”

Huddersfield Town supporters didn’t hold back at full time after the dreadful collapse against Bolton Wanderers. The anger from the stands was vocal and unfiltered, leaving no doubt in our minds that, yes, there are points to prove.

There were things to appreciate in this performance, particularly in the first half. Grant said afterwards that he didn’t like the performance in the second and he’d have been hard pushed to analyse it any other way.

But a kick in the teeth of this severity changes things. This was a big result, largely self-inflicted from a position of relative strength, and lines are being drawn left, right and centre.

A consistent 90-minute performance here would have taken injury time out of the equation. Now, the supporters — the very same ones who have been right behind the team — need and expect performances and wins.
