We’ll say it right off the bat: we didn’t really like this performance, especially not in the first half.

All the renewed endeavour that Darren Moore’s side showed against Sunderland and Southampton effectively went out the window from the word go. In those games Town would set themselves to defend, win the ball, then play a couple of tidy, sharp balls to get them into a position to carry the ball upfield. As we touched on after Sunderland, it wasn’t brilliant, but it was just about functional and effective enough for them to ride out a massive result at the Stadium of Light.

Here, Town largely reverted to just clearing the ball aimlessly forward. Nothing was more emblematic of Town’s first-half performance than seeing Tom Lees take a short goal kick to Chris Maxwell, who quickly moved it out to Matty Pearson, who duly booted it 30 yards over Danny Ward’s head and straight to the most distant Swansea centre-back he could possibly find. Truly a worthwhile bit of business all round.
