Freddie Ladapo agrees mutual termination of Huddersfield Town contract
The centre-forward departs with immediate effect as a free agent
Freddie Ladapo has left Huddersfield Town after coming to terms on a mutual termination of his contract.
The centre-forward is yet to appear in a competitive game this season and becomes a free agent with immediate effect.
Ladapo arrived at Town a year and a day ago as a free agent after the club were unable to secure their desired centre-forward signing in the summer transfer window, with Joe Taylor and Alfie May both slipping the net.
However, Taylor arrived at the club the following January with May coming in among a fleet of new signings this summer.
Ladapo failed to make an impact in his 25 outings last term and found himself some way down the pecking order behind Taylor, May, Dion Charles, and Bojan Radulovic, with Zepiqueno Redmond also bolstering the Terriers’ centre-forward options as a deadline day signing.
Town boss Lee Grant said in a club statement: “As a club, we’ve been having honest conversations with Freddie about the likely size of his role here for some time, and this mutual decision is the natural conclusion of those discussions.
“Remaining professional, committed and training well throughout pre-season and the first month of competitive matches, I would have expected nothing less from Freddie having got to know him and worked with him closely in the past.
“It’s no secret that we aren’t currently in a position where Freddie would have received the consistent minutes a player of his stature has earned, and this decision now provides him the flexibility to find a side where that won’t be the case for him.
“Having introduced 14 new faces in total this summer with many of those operating in the final third, there was always going to be an eventuality where existing members of the squad might have to seriously consider taking their talents elsewhere.
“We wish Freddie nothing but happiness and success moving forward, and thank both him and his representatives for their co-operation, understanding and professionalism throughout this process.”
