Guts, grit and goals: Huddersfield Town Women set standard at Leeds United
Town Women began their season with a 2-0 victory over Leeds United, thanks to goals from Beth Ibbotson and Molly Firth
Starting the season in a new division, away from home, against local rivals can often be daunting. However, Town Women provided a perfect start to life in FAWNL Division One North with a two-goal win away at Leeds United.
Town boss Glen Preston was particularly pleased with the way his players showed a different side to themselves in a typically hard-fought derby.
Routine as the scoreline may make the victory look, Town dug in brilliantly in moments of adversity and came up with the goods in front of goal when it counted, taking the lead through a Beth Ibbotson header before substitute Molly Firth killed the game off in added time.
“It’s a great three points,” Preston said. “We don’t know until the end of the season just how massive those three points could be.
