Hardy stalwart Jonathan Hogg poses Huddersfield Town transfer dilemma
The captain's new contract keeps him as one of English football's longest-serving players - and for good reason
Jonathan Hogg is preparing to enter his 12th consecutive season as a Huddersfield Town player. Only eight other footballers in England’s top four divisions have played more seasons for their current clubs, the vast majority of whom are academy graduates. Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Cardiff’s Joe Ralls are the only two who aren’t defenders.
Hogg has appeared for Town under two monarchs and five prime ministers — probably six, in another few weeks. Come the start of the new campaign, he will also have turned out for them in three different divisions.
Even if the direction of travel is not exactly the plot of a fairytale, there is something to be said for a player who has been willing to stick by the club through it all, especially as he was the only remaining senior holdout from Town’s Premier League days just two years after their relegation back to the Championship.
