Herbie Kane departs Huddersfield Town for Plymouth Argyle loan
The Terriers midfielder will spend the rest of the season on loan with divisional rivals Plymouth
Herbie Kane has left Huddersfield Town to join Plymouth Argyle on loan for the rest of the season.
The Terriers midfielder last month returned to full training after over three months out with a groin injury he suffered away to Bradford City in mid-September.
Kane has not featured in a senior matchday squad since then, however, and has returned into a side with an otherwise full complement of central midfielders, including Ryan Ledson, Marcus McGuane, David Kasumu, Cameron Humphreys, Marcus Harness, and the soon-to-return Antony Evans.
27-year-old Kane arrived at Huddersfield as a free agent in summer 2024 following his release by Barnsley and has appeared 41 times for the club in all competitions.
His contract at Accu Stadium is set to expire in summer 2027.
Head coach Liam Manning said in a club statement: “Coming off a long set-back, the best thing to get Herbie back up to speed is regular meaningful minutes, and that’s not something we can guarantee him here with the competition for places we have in midfield areas, especially with other players hoping to return from their own injuries in the near future too.
“A shame for him to have missed so much of the season with injury, Plymouth Argyle are an ambitious side themselves with their own goals for the season, so that’s no bad environment to join.
“We’ll keep tabs on how Herbie progresses, and wish him nothing but the best out on loan.”
Sporting director Chris Markham added: “Plymouth Argyle showed a real desire to get this deal complete and we’re happy to agree a move that is in Herbie’s best interests so soon after returning from injury.
“Plymouth Argyle are a good fit for his style of play, and he wasn’t against the prospect of testing himself elsewhere over the next few months, either.
“Heading off with our full support and best wishes, we hope that this is a positive move for all concerned between now and the end of the season.”
