Huddersfield Town digest: Injury news and match preview for Burton trip
Plus our predicted line-up, Town Women's return to action and an event to celebrate the Thrice Champions centenary
What’s been said
Coming up next
Huddersfield Town will make the trip to take on Burton Albion, who sit two points adrift of safety in 21st place.
Burton have been a particular thorn in the side of some of the promotion-chasing sides this season, taking a goalless draw in the reverse fixture before going on to claim impressive victories away to Cardiff and Bradford and at home to Bolton.
But the Brewers have proved to be somewhat streak and inconsistent this season, and they come into this game on the back of three straight league defeats — albeit their confidence will have been boosted by a dominant 5-0 win over non-league Boreham Wood in the FA Cup last weekend.
Like Town, Burton’s defensive record is rather curious this season. They have kept seven clean sheets over the campaign, the same number as Bolton and just one fewer than Huddersfield, Bradford, Stevenage, Stockport and Lincoln — but they have one of the worst home goal against records in the division having lost heavily on their own turf to Luton, Plymouth, Leyton Orient.
On top of that, no other League One side has taken fewer points from behind than Burton this season (just two). That suggests that if Town can break their resistance, the floodgates could well open…but as Town found out earlier this season, getting that first goal might be easier said than done.

Elsewhere in League One
In the lunchtime kick-offs, third-placed Bradford host league leaders Cardiff, while sixth-placed Bolton make the short trip to mid-table Wigan.
And in the 3pm kick-offs: Luton face a tough challenge in their bid to move into the play-off places as they take on second-placed Lincoln.
After leapfrogging Town into fourth place last weekend, Stockport are at home to a relegation-threatened Rotherham side in wretched form. Eighth-placed Stevenage will meanwhile go away to in-form Exeter (aside from losing 10-1 to Manchester City — welcome to the club, lads).
Stevenage will then make up one of their games in hand by hosting Bolton in the only League One fixture set to take place on Tuesday evening.
Huddersfield Town injuries and absences
Will Alves is suffering no ill effects from the kick he received shortly before being subbed off against Rotherham on Tuesday night.
Marcus McGuane made his long-awaited return from injury against Rotherham in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night.
Sean Roughan is expected to be out until early-mid February with a groin injury.
Antony Evans (knee), Herbie Kane (groin) and Jack Whatmough (calf) remain sidelined. Evans and Kane are pushing to make their returns to action, but no date has been set on Whatmough’s recovery.
Predicted line-up to face Burton Albion
3-4-2-1: Lee Nicholls; Radinio Balker, Joe Low, Murray Wallace; Lynden Gooch, Marcus Harness, Cameron Humphreys, Bali Mumba; Alfie May, Will Alves; Bojan Radulovic.
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Josh Feeney, Lasse Sorensen, Ryan Ledson, Marcus McGuane, Mickel Miller, Dion Charles.
Huddersfield Town Women
Town Women will have a third attempt at going away to Doncaster Rovers Belles for a fixture that has already been twice postponed.
The Terriers have dropped down to second in the meantime after being docked two points last month for fielding an ineligible player, but will be hoping they can overhaul new leaders Wythenshawe with a victory in South Yorkshire.
And finally
The Huddersfield Local History Society are hosting an academic presentation to celebrate the centenary of Huddersfield Town becoming the first side in English football to win three top-flight titles in a row.
Local historian and former HTSA chair Jim Chisem will host the presentation at the University of Huddersfield Oastler Building on Monday 26th January, 2026 at 7:30pm.
Admission is free for members of the Local History Society, and £2 for non-members (pay on the day, cash only).
