Huddersfield Town digest: Ryan Hardie to be assessed for Plymouth trip
Plus the latest on Bojan Radulovic, predicted line-up, and what to look out for this weekend
What’s been said
Coming up next
Huddersfield Town will travel to Plymouth Argyle for Saturday’s 3pm kick off in what could be a vital six-pointer in the race for the top six.
The newly-relegated Pilgrims got off to an awful start to life back in League One and were in the relegation zone at the turn of the new year, but a league title since then would have then second in the table — thanks in no small part to a vast improvement in their home form.
Lincoln are the only side to have won at Home Park since Plymouth lost with ten men at home to Reading on Boxing Day, with Wycombe and Mansfield the only other sides to have taken a point home with them in that time.
Plymouth have the strongest set piece record goalscoring record in the division (24), and while top scorer Lorent Tolaj has been sidelined for the past month, the in-form Aribim Pepple still offers plenty for Town to be wary of after racking up 11 goals in the Plymouth’s 16 league games.
We’ll have five conclusions on the game for our paying subscribers first thing on Sunday morning, followed by further reaction in Monday morning’s podcast. Get signed up if you’re not already.
Elsewhere in League One
Fixtures from the rest of the top half of the division on Saturday are as follows (3pm unless stated otherwise):
Cardiff vs Blackpool (12:30pm)
Luton vs Stockport (12:30pm)
Barnsley vs Doncaster
Burton vs Bradford
Leyton Orient vs Wycombe
Lincoln vs Rotherham
Port Vale vs Bolton
Stevenage vs Reading
Town men do not have a game the following weekend due to international call-ups in the Cardiff squad, meaning the Bluebirds’ visit to Accu Stadium has been rescheduled for Tuesday 14 April at 7:45pm.
There are however still other League One games to be played on 28th March, with the top half clubs in action as follows:
Bradford vs Plymouth
Doncaster vs Lincoln
Reading vs Wigan
Stockport vs Wimbledon
Wycombe vs Port Vale
Huddersfield Town injuries and absences
Ryan Hardie was forced off with a knock on Tuesday night against Lincoln and will be assessed ahead of the trip to face his former club Plymouth.
Bojan Radulovic is ‘a lot closer’ to making his return from a hamstring injury.
Joe Low is bit behind the centre-forward in his recovery from a calf injury but is doing some individual work and ‘progressing well’.
Radinio Balker is expected to be out with his adductor injury until early April.
Predicted line-up to face Plymouth
3-4-2-1: Lee Nicholls; Jack Whatmough, Murray Wallace, Sean Roughan; Lasse Sorensen, Ryan Ledson, Cameron Humphreys, Bali Mumba; Marcus Harness, David Kasumu, Ryan Hardie.
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Josh Feeney, Lynden Gooch, Antony Evans, Marcus McGuane, Cameron Ashia, Alfie May.
Huddersfield Town Women
Leeds United went top of the league with a draw away to Doncaster Belles at the weekend, with Town not getting an immediately opportunity to respond as they were in County Cup semi-final action at the time.
A 2-1 win over Barnsley Women has earned Town a place in the final, where they will face Sheffield FC. Details of that game are to be announced in due course.
Town did however keep the pressure on Leeds on Tuesday night by claiming a 2-0 win over Stockport County, with Leeds simultaneously matching that result and scoreline against York City. That keeps the Terriers just a point behind Leeds, but with a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
Huddersfield will continue their promotion bid away to Chester Le Street Town this Sunday in a 2pm kick-off, while Leeds will be at home to in-form Durham Cestria and third-placed Cheadle visit Doncaster.
