Huddersfield Town player ratings as ten-man Terriers thumped at Wycombe
Alfie May's red card in the 25th minute turned the tide of the game as Michael Duff's Wycombe cruised to victory
Lee Nicholls - 8
Came under pressure on the ball a couple of times in the opening minutes but able to get it away. Great save to tip over a Sam Bell header on the half hour, but not much he could do as Cauley got free to head home from point-blank range. Managed to keep out a fierce and swerving Jack Grimmer effort shortly after. Faultless in the second half despite picking up a bit of a knock while claiming a low cross. Soundly beaten by Fred Onyedinma’s well-hit strike.
Lasse Sorensen - 6
Won numerous defensive headers to get Wycombe crosses away from the back post. Initially showed plenty of intent to get forward but was unable to do that so much after the red card. Unlucky that his block on a Wycombe cross deflected right into the mixer as Wycombe went ahead.
Josh Feeney - 5
Enjoyed a great start to the game and was solid in the second half, but blotted his copybook by letting Woodrow get away from him to give Wycombe their first-half lead off a flick-on.
Joe Low - 5
Back on his old stomping grounds. Like Feeney, generally had a solid game but committed an avoidable error to help Wycombe score, giving the ball away off a short goal kick to allow Wycombe a short route to goal.
Ruben Roosken - 4
Struggled a bit after Town went down to ten men, and not really for reasons that had much to do with that disadvantage. Could have been stronger in the air on the way to Wycombe’s first-half goal, and lucky a really poor touch in his own half didn’t lead to another in first-half injury time — though did make up for that with a couple of decent interventions before the break arrived. Sacrificed for a change of shape on the hour.

Lynden Gooch - 5
A surprise selection in central midfield with David Kasumu out with a calf injury. Influential in the first 25 minutes, just couldn’t find his final pass after the break. Looked to have a bit of a knock that limited his sprinting ability, and was turned by Onyeninma as Wycombe got their second.
Ryan Ledson - 4
Had more of a defensive brief without Kasumu alongside him, and especially as Town’s holding midfielder after a change of shape in the second half. Kept things simple and did them well enough with 11 men; overrun along with the rest of his teammates with ten.
Ben Wiles - 3
Started in a narrow role off the right but had to become an out-and-out right winger a 4-4-1 after Town went down to ten men. Too easily beaten on the wing as Wycombe got forward to score their opener, and again found lacking with a tame effort to stop Sam Bell getting to Low’s poor pass as Wycombe doubled their lead.
Marcus Harness - 7
Started as the central number 10 and looked good in the role. Played some superb passes early on, including a great through ball for Alfie May that was just about cut out. A shame we didn’t get to see more of him in that role as Town had to re-shuffle: he briefly played centre-forward after May’s red card before moving to the left wing after Leo Castledine went off injured. Finally ended up at left wing-back as Lee Grant went 3-1-4-1 on the hour. Made numerous important defensive interventions in the second half.
Leo Castledine - 6
Put an early free kick he won himself over the bar with a decent dipping effort. Looked bright playing in a narrow role off the left, but was forced off with an injury before the break after a nasty landing from an aerial challenge. Unfortunately looks like it could be a nasty one.
Alfie May - 2
Made some promising runs and would have got in off Harness’ through ball had the keeper not come well off his line to get to it just in time. Rightly dismissed on 25 minutes for a high, late and entirely needless tackle on Fred Onyedinma. He will (and did) argue that the slick pitch made it look worse; still not an excuse in our book.
