Huddersfield Town player ratings as late point rescued against Burton Albion
Michal Helik headed home an 88th-minute equaliser after a poor first half gave way to one-way traffic after the break
Jacob Chapman - 7
Could do nothing about the opener. Did brilliantly to get across and save from point-blank range early in the second half.
Tom Lees - 4
Overran Charlie Webster as he got free to score Burton’s opener. Tried to force things a bit too much with a couple of his early passes and slowed things down too much in possession in general, but might argue he needed more passing options on his side of the pitch.
Michal Helik - 7
Tried to keep the ball moving quickly when it came back to him. Had a second half shot blocked on the line before coming up with the late equaliser from close range.
Nigel Lonwijk - 5
Extremely up and down performance that is hard to assign a score to. Was beaten up the wing by Rumarn Burrell on the way to Burton taking the lead. Formally moved across to an out-and-out left-back role at the break as Town went 4-3-3. Kept getting caught out going for interceptions he couldn’t get anywhere near, one of which almost led to Burton scoring again. More positively, had a header cleared off the line from a corner and another effort saved at the near post and continued to look a threat around the box in the dying stages.
Brodie Spencer - 4
Along with Lees, did not pick up Webster as he got into the box to scored the opener. Should have equalised for Town just a few minutes after they went behind but put his header wide of the post. Played the second half as Helik’s centre-back partner.
Herbie Kane - 6
Good at getting away from his man. Did what he could to build the play but often too short of options. Kept plugging away.
David Kasumu - 5
Didn’t have his best game and cut a frustrated figure at times. As with Lees, not really the player for the occasion after Town went behind and needed to break Burton down.
Josh Koroma - 7
The one Town player who looked at all likely to offer a genuine threat, and did so on several occasions only for his best work to come to nothing with no finish applied at the end of it, twice sending teasing balls in that Callum Marshall couldn’t finish off and setting up other chances for Lonwijk and Radulovic that were saved.
Ben Wiles - 5
Another tough one to assess. Really poor in the first half, failing to influence the game nearly enough in between the lines with teammates unable to find him. Showed some signs of improvement in the second half but still erratic. Provided a couple of set piece deliveries that should have been converted, for which he gets back some credit, but also some others that just curled straight out of play. Came good in the end with a great delivery for Helik to head in on the second phase of a set piece.
Callum Marshall - 5
Good work off the ball both when defending and trying to find space between the lines, but a bit rushed at times in possession in his efforts to work it goalward. Moved onto the right of the front three for the second half, where he continued in the same vein. Unable to reach Koroma’s ball across the face of goal as he slid in just before the hour.
Danny Ward - n/a
Put Town’s first shot of the game narrowly wide and twisted his knee in the process, forcing him out of the game.
Substitutes
Freddie Ladapo (for Ward 5) - Nope. Unsurprising to see him taken back off after lacking presence throughout his time on the pitch. 3
Ollie Turton (for Lees 46) - Played at right-back. Unable to finish off a penalty box scramble after the loose ball fell his way. Ha an injury time effort deflected narrowly wide. 5
Bojan Radulovic (for Ladapo 61) - Imposed himself a bit more at centre-forward but touch was lacking. Headed an injury time chance wide of the post. 5
Matty Pearson (for Spencer 75) - Sent on presumably to offer more of a set piece threat. n/a
Joe Hodge (for Kasumu 75) - Back from injury to play out the closing stages. Helped Town to start using the ball better. Good to have him back. n/a
Unused substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Jaheim Headley.
