Huddersfield Town player ratings from 0-4 victory at Bolton
Josh Koroma's double was supplemented by goals from Ben Wiles and Antony Evans as the Terriers claimed their biggest away win in the league since 2012 with a great team effort
Lee Nicholls - 7
Pretty routine work to do for the most part, bar one excursion out of his box to head away a ball over the top…but hey, he did it all well.
Tom Lees - 8
Missed a presentable header in the early stages, but did his job well at the back and even claimed an assist late on as he spotted Wiles in space in a crowded box at the end of a penalty-box scramble.
Michal Helik - 8
Masterful sliding tackle in the first half that he had to get right to stop Dion Charles getting clean through on Nicholls. Came good with another intervention early in the second half to stop a dangerous ball into the box.
Nigel Lonwijk - 8
His most even performance to date, using his pace and positioning to great effect to snuff out Bolton’s attempts to find joy on the counter-attack.
Lasse Sorensen - 6
Back to doing more of what we’d expect from him in the first half, helping Town win territory and playing some useful balls in behind the defence. Got his positioning wrong a few times at the back a few times after the break and was lucky not to be punished on a couple of those occasions, but continued to earn set pieces at the other end.
Antony Evans - 8
Played some lovely balls early on. Prompted an injury concern just before the break but was able to get up and keep playing. Forced a brilliant save out of Baxter with a firm header off Headley’s cross shortly after half time, but made the keeper look a fool as he was gifted the ball late on and simply controlled it before finishing for Town’s fourth.
Jonathan Hogg - 7
Let his man past him a couple of times in the first half but also looked a lot better on the ball and put in some more solid defensive work on other occasions. Made us a bit nervous at times in the second half given he was on a booking, and was taken off to spare the risk.
Ben Wiles - 7
Made up good yardage but was frustrated in his efforts to get the ball back from the byline. Kept plugging away and was rewarded as his ball led to Town’s penalty, then fired a left-footed shot home despite Baxter getting a touch to make it 0-3.
Mickel Miller - 7
Had a really good first half and played a big part in the move that produced the opener, but departed at the break to be replaced by Headley. Would have been on for a higher mark had he been able to stay on longer.
Callum Marshall - 7
Whipped in the cross from which Josh Koroma stooped to head home — made it easy for his strike partner, who just had to direct it home. Other chances ended up petering out, half the time through overly heavy touches, but once again dedicated and committed with his work off the ball.
Josh Koroma - 8
Scored another header (imagine!) to put Town ahead just before half time. Felt he should have been awarded a penalty ten minutes before the break but it wasn’t awarded…but then did earn Town a spot kick just before the hour, which he stepped up to take himself and score.
Substitutes
Jaheim Headley (for Miller 46) - A mixed bag in the moments after coming on — a great cross for Evans here, a shot to the corner flag there — but settled into the game and ended up with a decent performance. 6
Freddie Ladapo (for Marshall 69) - Came on for his debut and had a quiet but responsible game. 6
Joe Hodge (for Hogg 69) - Solid job patrolling behind the two more advanced midfielders. 6
Bojan Radulovic (for Koroma 80) - Back from injury for his first appearance of the season. n/a
Tom Iorpenda (for Wiles 80) - Slipped while trying to cross immediately after coming one and took a short corner to a teammate who wasn’t looking. Who’s bothered at four-nil though? n/a
Unused substitutes: Jacob Chapman, Matty Pearson.
