Huddersfield Town player ratings from stale 0-0 draw against Reading
Town were left frustrated by the Royals and were unable to get anything more than a draw
Lee Nicholls - 6
Distribution showed elements of rust - as to be expected with a four month lay off. Wasn’t tested all afternoon, with only one shot on target from Reading.
Lasse Sorensen - 5
Got a telling off from his team mates when he was caught snoozing more than once. Mixed bag of crosses, his cut backs will usually find their desired target but the ones into the box weren’t great.
Radinio Balker - 6
There were moments where his ‘see ball, get ball’ mentality showed, but was capable at dealing with almost everything Reading threw at him. Made a fantastic block late on to deny Ehibhatiomhan’s strike.
Tom Lees - 6
Back in the side, this time in a back four. Performed adequately. Can’t complain with a clean sheet.
Brodie Spencer - 5
Seemed to be uncomfortable playing on the left without an additional centre half tucked inside him. Would either get caught with room on the outside or inside of him, unable to find the right balance positionally, as shown with his booking for a cynical tug on the shirt.
Jonathan Hogg - 7
Alongside Kane, provided a stable structure for Town to break forward in numbers. Ended up overran in midfield in the second half, making it probably the correct call to replace him with Kasumu.
Herbie Kane - 7
Back to popping the ball in tight spaces. Managed to find avenues for Town to play in but would overcomplicate things sometimes.
Ben Wiles - 6
Carried the ball forward for Town but didn’t manage to create the golden chance they were aiming for. Floated out towards the right, but his possession of the ball was fairly efficient.
Callum Marshall - 7
Came in with the same energy he brought at Northampton, putting Town on the front foot. Too early or too late in terms of actions around the box. Could do with a goal just to relax him again.
Dion Charles - 6
Lashed at a few efforts from outside the box when he had a slight glimpse of the target in the first half. Effort is clearly there, just needs the right chance to fall to him. Looks to be forcing things at points.
Tawanda Chirewa - 7
A bright spark for Town. Went forward with confidence, but was a little hesitant in his decision making. Worked back to win the ball inside his own half. Began to tire in the second half, eventually being replaced. Promising.
Substitutes
Josh Koroma (for Chirewa 66) - Should have been through on goal but ended up receiving the ball when he was 10 yards offside. Has to be better in that moment. Cracked a shot from a typical Koroma cut in, forcing Joel Pereira to parry away. 5
David Kasumu (for Hogg 66) - Received a yellow card, despite winning the ball in a clean challenge. Not the levels we have seen previously, but good to have him back available. 6
Ollie Turton (for Sorensen 75) - Provided a stronger right side for Town after his introduction. 6
Freddie Ladapo (for Charles 81) - Created his own luck with some fancy footwork, got inside his man and ended up hitting a tame shot. Again, worked hard to get to the ball before Pereira, but his cross ballooned out of play. 5
Unused substitutes: Jacob Chapman, Josh Ruffels, Joe Hodge.
