Huddersfield Town player ratings as Terriers claim vital big win over Blackburn Rovers
Darren Moore's side claimed a comprehensive three-goal victory thanks to strikes from Jaheim Headley, Sorba Thomas and Delano Burgzorg
Chris Maxwell - 6
Had just one save to make before appearing to injure his hamstring coming out to pick up a routine ball, necessitating his departure.
Tom Lees - 7
Good outing, helping to withstand and repel a poor Blackburn in the final third.
Michal Helik - 7
Had to step out to defend more than we often see from him but did so to good enough effect that Blackburn offered very little.
Yuta Nakayama - 7
Defended as a left-back in the first half before switching to more clearly playing on the left of a back three after the break. Calm and capable in both roles and continues to offer more on the ball playing out from the back.
David Kasumu - 7
Started at right wing-back with Ben Jackson missing through illness. Constantly made great runs up the flank but end product was unsurprisingly lacking from a player not noted for his contributions in the final third. Still an important player in getting the attack going. Hopefully not fallen to any kind of serious injury after going off late on.
Ben Wiles - 8
Restored to the side in central midfield and looked much more like the player Town played a seven-figure fee to sign in the summer, nipping in to win his 50/50 challenges and linking the play really smartly. Played a big part in the build-up to both goals that came before his departure. His best outing for the club by some distance.
Jonathan Hogg - 8
Had a good afternoon on and off the ball and particularly stood out in a first half in which neither side offered a huge amount.
Jack Rudoni - 8
Had a subdued first half but played a great pass to feed Delano Burgzorg to go through and assist Town’s second goal. Should have been awarded a penalty for being hauled down as he tried to round goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt. Good hassling to win the ball and set Town on their way to their third goal. Looked understandably leggy in the closing stages.
Jaheim Headley - 7
Won’t care a bit that Wahlstedt really should have kept out his low drive as he fired Town ahead.
Sorba Thomas - 7
Continued at centre-forward. Went for glory early on only to slice badly off target when the right move would have been to pull it back to a teammate - then later tried to square for Delano Burgzorg when he should have shot. Peeled away off the front line to decent effect, including on the way to setting up Headley’s goal. Clearly enjoyed scoring against the side where he had an unhappy loan spell last season, and didn’t really want to go off when his number went up midway through the second half.
Delano Burgzorg - 8
Remains frustrating at times but overall had a very positive showing and caused Blackburn no shortage of trouble with his direct running. Got his ball across goal right to give Thomas a tap-in ten minutes after the break, and finished calmly to notch Town’s third despite the keeper getting a solid touch.
Substitutes
Jacob Chapman (for Maxwell 41) - Made his club and Championship debut from the bench. Didn’t really put a foot wrong with what little he had to do. 6
Loick Ayina (for Wiles 67) - Took over from Kasumu at right-back - despite being a centre-back by trade. 6
Josh Koroma (for Thomas 67) - Claimed an assist immediately after coming on, much to his amusement. Effective in stopping Blackburn from playing their way back into the game. 7
Rarmani Edmonds-Green (for Kasumu 78) - Saw the game out in central midfield after Kasumu went off injured. 6
Subs not used: Josh Austerfield, Brahima Diarra, Tom Iorpenda, Michael Stone, Kyle Hudlin.
