Huddersfield Town player ratings from latest absolutely abysmal showing at Burton
Jon Worthington's side were repeatedly torn apart by a side who started the day in the relegation zone and suffered a deserved 3-0 loss
Lee Nicholls - 5
Had to deal with some set pieces right down his throat. Didn’t look to be much he could do on the goals.
Lasse Sorensen - 2
One of three players who should have done better on the way to Burton’s second. Entered the box in good positions a few times in the first half but final ball was invariably aimless. No threat in the second half.
Matty Pearson - 3
Really struggled with the pace of Rurmarn Burrell on Burton counter-attacks in the early going. Settled into the game for a spell and made numerous tackles and interceptions to stop the hosts from breaking, sparing him an even lower mark, but really poor on the second goal along with a couple of teammates.
Josh Ruffels - 4
Cleared the ball off the line moments before Burton doubled their lead on the stroke of half time having been too easily beaten in the build-up. Unable to stop it on the second phase as Julian Larsson found the net, but shouldn’t have had to after three of his teammates had already let him wriggle past and into the box. Finished the game in decent sorts but not inclined to give much credit for that given the scoreline by that point.
Mickel Miller - 4
Played some nice balls up the left for Roosken to run onto. (Bloody hell, we’re grasping at straws for anything good to say here in general, aren’t we). Shifted to wing-back at half time, to no greater effect.

Ben Wiles - 2
Played off the right of what looked to be a 4-4-2, but apparently with license to drift inside to number 10, though in all honesty the gameplan was difficult to discern. Either way it left a gap that Burton were only too happy to exploit. Barely in the game as Town struggled to build attacks and Burton tended to go over the Town midfield with their counters.
David Kasumu - 3
Didn’t offer the kind of protection to the defence we would normally expect, partly as a result of Burton’s quick direct play so easily bypassing the Town midfield. Taken off just after the hour.
Jonathan Hogg - 5
The only player who came out of the first half with any credit at all — it was genuinely embarrassing how often his teammates were reliant on him to bail them out in the first half hour or so. Will be disappointed not to have been able to stop Larsson on his way through to scoring Burton’s second, though, along with Sorensen and Pearson. At least made the effort to play the ball forward and got some promising passes over the top early on, but grew a bit ore wayward — not that he exactly had loads to aim for.
Ruben Roosken - 4
Had some nice touches up the left and played about the only two good Town crosses of the game. Took over from Miller at wing-back for the final half hour.
Joe Taylor - 2
Looked well off the pace from the word go, even in a struggling side, and could consider himself lucky not to be sent off after stepping on the back of Finn Delap’s leg after making a challenge late in the first half. Not at all surprising to see him replaced at the break.
Dion Charles - 4
Showed plenty of effort and urgency but wasn’t able to get past the Burton defence. Unable to get proper connections on two promising crosses in the first half. Operated as a lone striker in the second half and got no service. Kept fighting even after the game was totally gone, for what that’s worth.
Substitutes
Radinio Balker (for Taylor 46) - On at half time as Town went 3-4-3. Earned a quick booking for a clumsy challenge on JJ McKiernan, leaving him unable to commit to a challenge on Burrell a few minutes later as he made it 3-0. 3
Callum Marshall (for Kasumu 64) - Warmly welcomed onto the pitch by the frustrated away fans with the result already well beyond doubt. Unable to make an impact, but hard to hold that against anyone in the circumstances. 4
Antony Evans (for Miller 65) - On to partner Hogg in midfield. 4
Unused substitutes: Jacob Chapman, Ollie Turton, Joe Hodge, Josh Koroma.
