Huddersfield Town player ratings from Blackburn draw
Marks out of ten from the Championship trip to Ewood Park
Lee Nicholls - 7
Well-measured performance having been given little chance of doing anything about Blackburn’s early opener. Dealt well with all his work, particularly stopping a potentially dangerous cross late on.
Brodie Spencer - 7
Swapped with Tom Lees to go to the right of Michal Helik having played on the other side last weekend. That allowed Spencer to step out of the defence and get up the wing more freely. Another really good and calm performance at the back, one rash diving tackle aside.
Michal Helik - 7
Put a strong header away to pull Town back level from a Sorba Thomas corner. Showed quick reactions to snuff out a couple of potentially dangerous Blackburn moves
Tom Lees - 7
Mirrored Spencer’s composed and unfussy defensive showing, easing opposition players away from the ball without the need for risky challenges.
Sorba Thomas - 6
Started at right wing-back to accommodate new arrival Rhys Healey as Josh Koroma’s strike partner. Played a lot deeper than we normally see even in that role, with Alex Matos instead providing the attacking width with runs out to the right. Inch-perfect delivery for Helik to head in the equaliser midway through the first half.
Alex Matos - 6
Continues to be an absolute pain to play against in all the ways you want him to be (and one or two that you he could do with ironing out). Blackburn just the latest side to resort to kicking him.
Jonathan Hogg - 4
Gifted Adam Wharton his early goal with a careless blind pass just outside the Town penalty box. Generally solid game otherwise, particularly after the break.
Jack Rudoni - 4
The object of very close attention from the opposition, who actively sought to deprive Rudoni of any time or space on the ball. Missed an absolute sitter that would have put Town ahead after having the ball put on a plate for him by Josh Koroma shortly before the break — as bad an error as Hogg’s. That marred an an otherwise decent outing in which he was effective at disrupting Blackburn’s play and putting Town on the counter in the second half.
Ben Jackson - 5
Again a mixed bag both off and particularly on the ball. Struggled to influence the gam up the left. Did make some decent interventions inside his own box though.
Rhys Healey - 5
Straight into the starting line-up after his arrival on Friday. Didn’t get much in the way of chances but made a difference in Town’s build-up with some useful aerial duels and some intelligent movement, including helping to win the corner from which Helik scored the equaliser. Looked leggy in the second half though and struggled to impact the game more and more the longer it went on.
Josh Koroma - 7
Given something of a free role with license to drift wide or deep knowing Healey would operate as an out-and-out striker. Did really well to create that chance for Rudoni just before half time and would have deserved the assist for his work on that move. May consider himself unlucky to be sacrificed to get Bojan Radulovic on.
Substitutes
Bojan Radulovic (for Koroma 58) - Made his Championship debut from the bench. Tried to come deep to make himself available to link the play, and exhibited some really promising movement in behind that didn’t quite pay off. Excited to see him for a longer duration. 7
David Kasumu (for Matos 67) - Rushed a not-entirely-easy shot wide at the end of Town’s best move of the second half and lucky Blackburn didn’t exploit a silly moment of unawareness moments later. Did make some good challenges in the mix too, but work on the ball not great. 4
Subs not used: Giosue Bellagambi, Loick Ayina, Tom Edwards, Brahima Diarra, Tom Iorpenda, Ben Wiles, Kyle Hudlin.
