Huddersfield Town player ratings as Rhys Healey seals huge late win over Millwall
Andre Breitenreiter's side showed another improvement and battled really well to earn a potentially vital victory over a relegation rival and move out of the drop zone
Lee Nicholls - 6
Showed good leadership at times with a few timely messages to teammates. Not forced into a great deal of action with Millwall’s better chances going off target and the defence dealing with the rest so well.
Brodie Spencer - 8
Supported Sorba Thomas well up the right wing and did an excellent job defensively, including preventing a tap-in off a Ryan Leonard cross early in the second half. Always in the right place at the right time.
Matty Pearson - 7
Good solid centre-back outing as Town kept Millwall quiet for much of the game, bar a couple of notable wasted chances. Forced a great save out of Matija Sarkic from which Healey put away the rebound.
Michal Helik - 8
Really strong both in the air and on the floor with Millwall’s strikers and big men failing in their efforts to bully him. Took up good positions top stop himself getting run in behind, too.
Ben Jackson - 3
Made his first start since Darren Moore’s departure at the end of January, replacing Jaheim Headley at left-back, but looked very rusty. Lacked urgency with some of his work on and off the ball. Yellow carded for a cynical foul after giving the ball away cheaply in the first half, and struggled to find his touch throughout, prompting an earful from Nicholls shortly before the break. Unsurprising to see him hooked at half time.
Sorba Thomas - 8
Took some really impressive touches in the first half and was a constant source of forward momentum. Just about managed to hold his temper enough to avoid lamping Billy Mitchell in an ill-tempered exchange that saw both players booked. Seemed to lose focus for a spell after that before getting back into the game, creating a pair of late chances including the late, late winner.
David Kasumu - 7
We’d still like to see him banned from shooting, but defensive work was consistently alert and effective. Proved a capable ball-carrier in Jack Rudoni’s absence.
Alex Matos - 7
Did very well to hold onto the ball under heavy pressure at times — even if sometimes unadvisedly — and did a fair bit of mopping up and chasing down to give Millwall little quarter in midfield.
Josh Koroma - 6
The second of three changes, restored to the wing in Town’s new-look 4-4-2. Enjoyed a good first half, looking dangerous with his dribbling and twice going close just before the break with his first effort going narrowly over and the second being denied by a fantastic Ryan Leonard block. Went close with a scrappy back-heel after the break, but overall had a quieter second period before departing in the 71st minute.
Bojan Radulovic - 6
Made good runs that weren’t always taken up by teammates and put himself about both in the air and off the ball.
Delano Burgzorg - 7
Back into the side to partner Bojan Radulovic up top. Far better than in his most recent outings, showing a renewed willingness to bring teammates into play. Forced a sharp low save out of Sarkic just before half time after working hard to get onto a through ball intended for Radulovic, and tested the keeper again late on with the score still level.
Substitutes
Jaheim Headley (for Jackson 46) - An improvement on Jackson, if still imperfect. Did really well to force the corner from which Town got the winner. 6
Rhys Healey (for Radulovic 62) - Was having a quiet game before getting two chances to win it, putting away the second after Pearson’s good header was saved. 7
Danny Ward (for Koroma 71) - Took over up front with Burgzorg going to the wing. Had little opportunity to affect things on the ball but put himself about well. 6
Ben Wiles (for Matos 81) - Played a lovely ball out to Thomas that led to a good opening. n/a
Tom Edwards (for Spencer 81) - Had the crowd on his back before he even got onto the pitch. Didn’t do himself tonnes of favours with two attempted long balls hitting the first man, but still quite harshly treated in out view. n/a
Unused substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Ollie Turton, Tom Iorpenda, Pat Jones.
