Huddersfield Town player ratings as Pearson and Wiles goals beat Exeter City
The Terriers capped an excellent week with three points courtesy of a 2-0 victory at the John Smith's Stadium
Jacob Chapman - 6
Struggled with having the sun right in his eyes on a couple of high bombs into the box in the first half, but managed to stop them causing any real danger. Was given his first save to made straight after the break and kept it out, denying Josh Magennis a decent header. Did just enough to put off Magennis as he looped a shot over the bar from point-blank range in an effort to lob Chapman.
Matty Pearson - 7
Notched up another goal early on off Ben WIles’ corner, with his header coming from such close range the keeper couldn’t keep it out despite it being straight at him. Over-ambitious with some of his long balls. Twisted something late on as he controlled the ball, but thankfully able to play the remaining 15 minutes or so.
Tom Lees - 7
Captained the side. Solid and dependable in the heart of the defence, as he so often is.
Nigel Lonwijk - 8
Effectively played at left-back off the ball half the time with Town going 4-4-2 in the press. Offered his usual mix of attacking assistance and the odd little lapse at the back, but far more of the first than the latter and was solid when he needed to be as Town saw the game out.
Brodie Spencer - 8
Consistently brave and capable with his aerial challenges. Committed work from right wing-back both in attack and defence.
David Kasumu - 7
Bust a gut to get back and help Spencer cut out some potentially dangerous Exeter counter-attacks, and a constant nuisance in the opposition half too.
Herbie Kane - 8
Excellent first-half performance in central midfield, putting himself at the heart of several impressive passing moves. A tad quieter after the break as Exeter improved and he tired, but still had an important part to play.
Mickel Miller - 7
Kept plugging away trying to find openings and little one-twos around the Exeter defence. Put in a couple of well-crossed set piece deliveries that just needed a finish.
Ben Wiles - 8
Provided the corner from which Pearson scored the opener for the second weekend in a row. Played the lovely through ball from which Danny Ward had a goal disallowed. Expertly picked out the bottom corner to double Town’s lead just after the hour after getting a few yards of space outside the box.
Danny Ward - 7
Into the starting line-up with Bojan Radulovic unwell. Had a questionable offside given against him as he rounded the keeper to ‘double Town’s lead’ before seeing the flag — good run to get there though and a smart finish without knowing it wouldn’t count.
Callum Marshall - 8
Gelled well with Danny Ward and another typically great shift off the ball, winning the ball off defenders in the final third on multiple occasions to set Town off on the attack. Massive shift
