Huddersfield Town player ratings from decent point at Wrexham
The Terriers came away from one of their toughest away assignments of the campaign with a clean sheet and their first draw of the season
Jacob Chapman - 7
Brilliant early save from a shot to the bottom corner that half the crowd thought was in. Unafraid of coming through a crowded box to claim set pieces.
Matty Pearson - 8
Another good strong outing from the centre-back, who kept his place despite Brodie Spencer’s return from suspension. Great leadership and control.
Tom Lees - 8
Won virtually everything in the air against a couple of big beefy centre-forwards. Great reading to cut out a couple of threatening through balls in the first half, and had a run of superb interventions in the last 10-15 minutes.
Nigel Lonwijk - 8
Was kept busy by Wrexham’s constant attacks up their right wing through Ryan Barnett. Did his part to help Mickel Miller as much as possible, and got across the box to make a vital tackle on Paul Mullin to stop him getting a shot off after slipping into the box. Kept his focus well until late on, when he started to look a little bit cagey — but really well excellent for much of the game.
Ollie Turton - 7
Lovely cross for Bojan Radulovic late in the first half that sadly went to waste, and another for Ward later on that he couldn’t get enough power on. Held his own against James McClean and went off with a knock after stopping Mullin getting a clean shot off at the end of a counter-attack from a corner.
David Kasumu - 7
Booked for a cynical foul on Ollie Palmer to stop a counter early in the second half and had to keep himself in check a bit after that. Risked putting Town in trouble with a couple of poor touches and a wayward passes but got away with it. Got through a lot of good defensive work in between times, however, and particularly important on some late Wrexham attacks.
Herbie Kane - 6
Relatively forgettable performance either which way.
Mickel Miller - 6
Repeatedly challenged by Wrexham looking to play up his side more often than not. Won some and lost some. Cut inside to decent effect a few times but unable to do anything dangerous with it. Yellow carded late on for a late challenge.
Ben Wiles - 5
Unable to dictate the play as much as Town might have liked. Had one of those days where he had a lot of the right ideas but execution was just not quite right. Did really well to help Kasumu out after the latter’s booking, knowing he may not be able to go for every tackle.
Bojan Radulovic - 6
Put a header wide late on in the first half off Turton’s cross that he probably should have at least tested the keeper with. In the game a bit more in the second half, putting a couple of dangerous balls across the box.
Callum Marshall - 5
Departed at the break not having had a shot on goal. Like Radulovic, struggled to get into the game in a serious way against a well-organised Wrexham defence.
Substitutes
Danny Ward (for Marshall 46) - Presumably sent on to offer a bit more presence up top, which to be fair, he did. Really good with his link play and getting back to defend. 7
Brodie Spencer (for Turton 69) - Brought fresh energy up the right after Turton picked up a knock. 6
Rhys Healey (for Radulovic 83) - On for the final few minutes and looked nippy. n/a
Antony Evans (for Kane 83) - Helped Town see out the point and clean sheet. n/a
Unused substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Jaheim Headley, Jonathan Hogg.
