Huddersfield Town player ratings as Terriers out-fought in defeat at Luton
Leo Castledine's brilliant free kick made it 1-1 in the second half before the Terriers conceded an awful second goal
Owen Goodman - 3
Powerless in the face of the big deflection that produced Luton’s goal, and actually did well to go the right way and give himself a chance of getting there. Had another mare with the ball at his feet, albeit he was not at all helped out by Josh Feeney’s slightly misdirected backpass. Distribution late on really poor.
Lasse Sorensen - 5
Didn’t get the opportunities to offer his usual attacking threat for much of the game and was replaced by Lynden Gooch late on.
Josh Feeney - 4
Was having a very decent game until his backpass was just askew enough to put Goodman under pressure on the way to Luton’s second goal, in the course of which he also put a poor header straight to Lamine Fanne to allow him to shoot.
Joe Low - 4
Returned to the side after his recent minor injury, with Radinio Balker rested. Took an elbow to the face in the first half that should have seen Jerry Yates sent off, but the officials missed it. Got caught flat-footed as the ball trickled towards goal for Luton’s second, though not certain he could have done much about it anyway. A mixed bag of a performance which is not ideal for a centre-back.
Ruben Roosken - 5
Did his best with the many individual battles that came his way first half. Wasted a great opening soon after the break by crossing straight out of play with two teammates free in the box.

Ben Wiles - 4
Struggled to get involved in the game until half time was approaching, when he did well to ride a challenge and get into the box on the counter-attack but saw his shot blocked by a Nigel Lonwijk handball — not given, though. Had a shot blocked from close range on the hour after a clever run into the middle to meet Marcus Harness’ cross.
Marcus Harness - 5
Lost too many individual battles and gave the ball away too readily in the first half, but did great to stop Yates getting a simple header at the back post midway through the first half. Got his fifth league booking of the season early in the second half and will be suspended on Saturday. Town’s most effective player after the break as he drifted into more central positions. Much better in the second half after moving out towards the right wing, creating a good chance for Wiles that was well defended.
Ryan Ledson - 4
Should really have been booked for a late tackle early on, but got away with it. Had to do a lot of covering for Leo Castledine to help out Roosken. Unfortunate that his attempt to block Jake Richard’s long shot off a half-cleared set piece ended up deflecting it into the net. Had a chance to win a challenge in the build-up to Luton’s second but unable to do so.
Leo Castledine - 5
In for Mickel Miller, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Struggled through the opening minutes and needed to offer more defensively down that left side. Too slow to react to Richards’ threat outside the box as his deflected strike opened the scoring. Put a promising ball across the face of goal that Charles couldn’t quite get to. Absolute worldie of a free kick to draw Town level - could barely have been more perfectly into the far top corner. Finished the game playing on the right wing.
Dion Charles - 4
Unable to reach Castledine’s ball across the face of goal shortly after Luton took the lead. Took the ball off Radulovic’s foot as Town attacked straight from the kick-off in the second half.
Bojan Radulovic - 5
Had very little of the ball and a lot of what he did get was playing in a crowd on halfway, but did fabulously well to get the ball to teammates under heavy pressure each time. Would have had a chance straight after the break if Charles hadn’t got in the way.
