Huddersfield Town player ratings as Leicester City ease to victory
The Terriers were soundly beaten 4-1 by the champions elect despite capably resisting for most of the first half
Lee Nicholls - 5
Back in the side after sitting out the past two and a half games with a head injury. Unavoidably beaten by three of the first four shots that clinical Leicester got on target, but may feel he could have got a better hand to Stephy Mavididi’s free kick having done well to get down to it.
Tom Lees - 6
Outmuscled by Tom Cannon on his way to going clean through on Nicholls to put Leicester three goals to the good, though there were mistakes elsewhere in the back line that meant Lees had to make that challenge in the first place.
Michal Helik - 6
Had his own man to cover as Ricardo Pereira looped a header past Nicholls to double the hosts’ lead. Did what he could and tried to guide young Loick Ayina through the game as much as possible following his first-half introduction. Caught in no man’s land for Leicester’s third goal, but was in the right place to tuck away the goal Town pulled back just a couple of minutes later.
Yuta Nakayama - 5
Started the game at centre-back before shifting out to left wing-back following Jaheim Headley’s injury. Struggled a bit more with Abdul Fatawu than Headley had and unable to jaunt forward as often, though that may have had something to do with the flow of the game at that point.
David Kasumu - 6
Defensively sound again at right wing-back and constantly in motion getting up and down that flank, but somewhat sloppy with the ball in the first half. Had a good left-footed effort turned away from the bottom corner just before Town pulled a goal back.
Ben Wiles - 5
Hustled and bustled well to get into the right places on and off the ball, but never quite got the rub of the green with loose balls and efforts to find teammates that were just marginally off the mark.
Rarmani Edmonds-Green - 6
Drafted into the nominal defensive midfield role with Jonathan Hogg ruled out ill, though half the time that actually meant pushing up to help lead the press with the two centre-forwards. Played a couple of promising balls forward in the early going before being forced more and more into his defensive duties.
Jack Rudoni - 7
Kept trying to drive the side forward on the ball and actually had his best spell of the game after Town went three goals down, hoping to inspire the most unlikely of comebacks and causing Leicester some issues.
Jaheim Headley - 6
Tried to play on after receiving a heavy blow to his foot or ankle from a clumsy Cesare Casadei challenge, but eventually had to go off – that’s the third game in a row that Town have been forced into making a first-half change.
Sorba Thomas - 6
Unable to rise to the levels he hit last week but did provide the set piece from which Town grabbed their goal. Once again faultless with his work rate as he tried to find space for himself while depriving Leicester of it.
Josh Koroma - 5
Picked up where he left off against Middlesbrough with a lot of hard work the the right kinds of ideas, but never quite able to execute them as intended. Got lost in the shuffle for a spell but re-emerged as Town showed a bit of spirit trying to get back into the game, forcing Marcus Hermansen into a good low stop and later hitting the crossbar.
Substitutes
Loick Ayina (for Headley 37) - Introduced on the right of the back three with Lees going across to the left. Lost track of Ricardo Pereira as he headed home the goal that doubled Leicester’s lead just after half time, but made a fantastic block to deny an Abdul Fatawu effort shortly thereafter. Lost Cannon as he peeled away into space to score the hosts’ third. 5
Brahima Diarra (for Wiles 79) - Saw out the game in a like-for-like change. n/a
Subs not used: Jacob Chapman, Josh Austerfield, Tom Iorpenda, Michael Stone, Conor Falls, Kyle Hudlin.
