Huddersfield Town player ratings as Norwich City claim routine victory
Marks out of ten as Darren Moore's side start the festive period with a 2-0 loss at Carrow Road
Chris Maxwell - 7
Back into the starting line-up with Lee Nicholls out in accordance with concussion protocols. Made a great stop to deny Ashley Barnes just after the half hour. Nowt he could do on the goals.
Tom Lees - 5
Started the game really well but came under increasing pressure from the hosts and wasn’t always quite as quick to react as he needed to be.
Michal Helik - 5
Was likewise having a really good game until the 73rd minute, when his failure to win a routine forward ball allowed Adam Idah to stream forward and effectively set up the second goal. Missed a challenge on Gabriel Sara as Norwich went close to a third via Ui Jo Hwang.
Yuta Nakayama - 6
Solid enough game, albeit with one or two odd decisions on the ball mixed in. Left a bit exposed late on as Town increasingly pushed forward and Norwich tried to play on the counter.
Ben Jackson - 4
Returned from his groin injury to pick up where he left off: at right wing-back. Started the game well and strong on the floor defensively, but looked susceptible to balls over the top with his positioning putting him in trouble.
Jack Rudoni - 4
Got a bit lost in a midfield battle that the hosts largely dominated. Got back well to help Jackson on that side. Appeared to be the man responsible for Sam McCallum but let him go unmarked to score the opener just after half time.
Jonathan Hogg - 6
Had a lot of ground to cover to make the big gaps left in central areas by both teams. Did his part as well as he could in a difficult game.
David Kasumu - 4
Uncharacteristically stand-offish at times both with his defensive work and in making himself available to receive the ball, but looked more likely than anybody else to get play going when he did get it…though that isn’t saying very much.
Jaheim Headley - 3
Made the right decisions but was let down by a poor touch several times in the early going. Indecisive in the opposition half, which cost Town on the counter on a couple of occasions. Increasingly struggled to deal with Jack Stacey as the game went on and unable to impose himself in attack. Finished the game a bit more solidly.
Sorba Thomas - 4
Shifted into a centre-forward role with Danny Ward missing out with a recurrence of his Achilles issue. Largely ineffective in the role - which, in fairness, is somewhat out of position for him - and played some poor deliveries into the box. Finished the game at wing-back. Poor set piece deliveries.
Delano Burgzorg - 5
Did most of his work with his back to goal, which is not his preference as we know. Looks to be getting into more selfless habits, which is encouraging to see, but just nowhere near enough happening around him for that to mean terribly much. Admirably kept plugging away even when the game was clearly already lost.
Substitutes
Kyle Hudlin (for Jackson 69) - Yet another player to makde his return to the side from injury, taking over as Burgzorg’s partner with Thomas going to the right. Unable to offer very much, but had little hope of doing so. 4
Subs not used: Chris Maxwell, Loick Ayina, Josh Austerfield, Brahima Diarra, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Tom Iorpenda, Ben Wiles, Josh Koroma.
