Huddersfield Town player ratings from frustrating Plymouth draw
Josh Koroma's strike earned the Terriers a point in a game where they should have taken all three
Lee Nicholls - 6
Had his quietest game for a good long while with Plymouth failing to offer much threat on goal…besides, of course, the crucial moment they took the lead early in the first half.
Tom Lees - 7
Often the man to sweep up Plymouth’s more dangerous forward jaunts and distributed the ball well. Started to push forward as the game wore on to try and support the Town attack but cut an increasingly frustrated figure.
Michal Helik - 7
Has certainly had busier games when it comes to the demands placed on him in defence, but did everything that was asked.
Brodie Spencer - 8
Started in an unfamiliar role on the left of the back three alongside Helik and Lees, and now looks to be the answer to two problem positions having impressed at right-back last weekend. Absolute poise throughout.
David Kasumu - 4
Called into action as a right wing-back again having been kept out of the Manchester City game with a knee injury. Uncharacteristically took a half measure and got caught in no man’s land as Plymouth took the early lead, neither closing down the advancing Callum Wright nor covering Bali Mumba out wide before he crossed for Morgan Whittaker to score. Generally fine otherwise, and we don’t like to scapegoat players, but that was a real fundamental and costly error.
Alex Matos - 7
Dedicated in the tackle, though overly so at times - clearly the first thing he needs to learn now he’s playing regular senior football. Absolutely destroyed Plymouth’s patterns of play at times with his constant interceptions and challenges, and tried to take the ball forward whenever he got it. Should perhaps have put the ball away after getting to the loose ball off a half-cleared Sorba Thomas cross.
Jonathan Hogg - 4
Back in the side after a bout of illness. Needlessly wasteful with the ball too often in the first half, and didn’t really offer the link between defence and midfield you would expect in a side that had so much possession.
Jack Rudoni - 6
Had a brilliant start to the game, giving Plymouth real problems with his work rate off the ball, but found himself lost in the shuffle a bit as the first half drew to a close. Got back into the fray after the break but there was a lot of ‘not quite’ from him on the ball, even if his work off the ball remained at a high level. Put a presentable late header wide.
Ben Jackson - 5
Made a couple of smart interceptions and great recovery challenges but struggled to make an impact with the ball, particularly with his crossing. Did force Conor Hazard into a late stop with a 25-yarder though.
Josh Koroma - 7
Finally broke his run of bad form and bad luck in front of goal by pulling Town back level in the first half — his first goal since September, and no less than he deserved for a committed showing.
Sorba Thomas - 6
Had a poor start to the match but persevered as he always does and was rewarded with another (simple) assist for Koroma’s strike. Effort and application absolutely exemplary, as it has been all season, which helped him to pull himself up by his bootstraps and grow back into the game, but execution wasn’t always what it needed to be.
