Huddersfield Town ratings as deja vu sets in for defeated ten-man Terriers
Just like in midweek, Town scored through debutant Joe Hodge shortly after being reduced to ten men only to end up on the losing side
Lee Nicholls - 8
Good early save to turn Sam Nombe’s shot over the bar, and a phenomenal one to deny Jonson Clarke-Harris midway through the first half. Beaten by a penalty and a very well-struck winner he could do little about.
Tom Lees - 6
Missed an absolute sitter off a set piece late in the first half, heading well over the bar with the keeper nowhere. Patrolled his side of the defence well, though, and kept things calm under growing pressure late on.
Michal Helik - 7
Defended really well, especially in and around his own box. Impatient with the ball at times, trying too many long balls that were never going to come off.
Nigel Lonwijk - 7
Slightly dodgy start as he was Beaten to a long ball by Nombe in the first few minutes to given Rotherham a chance that Nicholls saved, then picked up an early booking for a needless off-the-ball foul on Jonson Clarke-Harris. Settled down after that and played a part in getting a couple of Town attacks going as well as looking good at the back. Overall good debut.
Lasse Sorensen - 4
Won some challenges, increasingly lost more challenges, and was given limited opportunity in the final third. Shot wide when he did get one. Had Duff fuming with one ball down the line that swerved out for a throw, and harshly had a penalty given against him, but shouldn’t have let Mallik Wilks past him in the first place. Difficult game for the Dane.
Antony Evans - 3
Made himself available well and sprayed the ball effectively on occasions, but found himself blocked off and showed his frustration at others.
Jonathan Hogg - 6
Looked good for most of the game, particularly first half but will be disappointed at being beaten too easily on the way to Wilks’ late winner.
Ben Wiles - 3
Another frustrating game for the midfielder, with little he tried in attack coming off either through good defending or misdirected passing.
Mickel Miller - 4
Bravely put his head in the way of a powerful Joe Powell shot to make a block just after the hour, which will have knocked the stuffing out of him. Caught between two stools a bit on the late winner. Delivery poor on the rare occasions he was able to get forward.
Josh Koroma - 8
Strong first-half performance, and is growing into the centre-forward role when it comes to his work with his back to goal. Looked a threat with his running all afternoon and just needed more support from midfield runners at times, finally getting it as he teed up Hodge to score despite Town having just been reduced to ten men.
Callum Marshall - 7
Repeatedly given long balls to try and win in the first ten minutes, which Michael Duff specifically said on Tuesday he didn’t want to see happening. Works incredibly hard, doesn’t he? Really determined showing, winning the ball well at both ends of the pitch. Put it on a plate for Lees on the second phase of a corner in the first half and found Koroma with a wonderful cross-field ball in the second.
