Huddersfield Town ratings as non-league Tamsworth knock Terriers out of FA Cup
Michael Duff's side have gone out of the competition at the first hurdle to National League opposition
Chris Maxwell - 3
Took his place in goal for the cup. Had an absolute nightmare as Tamworth took the lead, bundling Tom Tonks’ long throw into his own net under heavy pressure that he protested was a foul — not for us. Had earlier played with fire off a backpass under pressure and was poor with his kicking in the first half.
Matty Pearson - 5
Was given second thoughts about getting forward on the overlap through a crowded midfield where space was limited and the risk of a counter-attack was always present. Produced more than a couple aimless hoofs. Fortunate to win a free kick in injury time as Tamworth went close to a second, resulting in both players tumbling to the floor.
Tom Lees - 5
Felt he was fouled from a Town corner on the hour and should have been given a penalty. Found himself on the ball for long spells waiting for a passing option in the second half, which cost them precious seconds each time — not Lees’ fault, but an observation.
Nigel Lonwijk - 6
Back and across well to make a few last-ditch stops at the end of Tamworth counters. More at his usual level than a lot of his teammates.
Ollie Turton - 4
Back into the side at right wing-back. Got into dangerous attacking positions a few times in the opening stags, but put a shot over the bar and unable to create a clear-cut chances with his crosses. Quieter after that early flurry of activity but kept making himself available and played some decent passes into the box.
Tom Iorpenda - 4
Started in a box-to-box role as Michael Duff went back to the 3-4-1-2 we saw at the start of the season. Showed some nice touches and curled a shot not far wide early on, but struggled with some of the physical battles in a heavily congested and frantic midfield. Had a shot blocked at one end late in the first half then got back really well to help stop Tamworth finishing off a counter-attacking move. Dropped alongside Kasumu at half time as Duff reverted to 3-4-1-2 and looked more at home in that role.
David Kasumu - 4
Left isolated as the lone defensive midfielder in the first half as Tamworth made life difficult in midfield and looked to play on the counter. Had more help second half but still left chasing shadows a lot and had a frustrating day in the final third.
Ben Wiles - 3
Mirrored Iorpenda’s box-to-box role int he first half and had far too little impact. Predictably shifted back to number 10 at half time with Town trailing, but didn’t fare much better. Off his game with his set pieces. Kept trying to the death and put an injury time shot narrowly wide of the far post.
Jaheim Headley - 3
Made his first outing since last month’s EFL Trophy clash with Barnsley. Got to the byline on a handful of occasions but never able to make it count for anything, and offered little else in the build-up.
Bojan Radulovic - 4
Back into the side after missing last weekend ill. Inches away from giving Town the lead on 13 minutes as he wasn’t quite able to reach Wiles’ blazed ball across the face of goal. Loose with his ball work on a few occasions, killing off Town attacks prematurely. Looked determined in the second half but nothing quite went his way.
Danny Ward - 4
Limited to largely unconvincing half chances before being taken off at half time.
Substitutes
Callum Marshall (for Ward 46) - Picked up a yellow card within two minutes of coming on. Won his battles well and provided some good connective play. Daft shooting decision from the corner of the box late on with Radulovic looking to be available in the middle. 5
Herbie Kane (for Iorpenda 66) - Played some incisive balls from halfway as Town desperately tried to get back into it. 6
Mickel Miller (for Headley 66) - Looked brighter than the man he replaced but equally unable to create chances with practically every cross going straight at the keeper. Set pieces likewise, in common with his teammates who shared the duties. 4
Freddie Ladapo (for Radulovic 83) - n/a
Unused substitutes: Jacob Chapman, Josh Ruffels, Brodie Spencer, Cameron Ashia, Josh Koroma.
