Huddersfield Town ratings from two-goal comeback against Lincoln City
A terrible first 45 minutes saw the Terriers go in two goals down at the break, but Brodie Spencer and Callum Marshall both struck to ensure Town rescued a point
Jacob Chapman - 6
Didn’t have a huge amount to do, especially after the break, and had no chance with the goals.
Matty Pearson - 4
Part of an unchanged back three from midweek with Tom Lees out ill. Picked up where he left off against Bolton with an uncharacteristically rushed and nervy-looking performance. Picked up a knock to the head late in the first half that he struggled with, forcing him to go off.
Michal Helik - 6
Decent enough with a lot of Town’s defensive issues in the first half either coming ahead of or either side of him.
Nigel Lonwijk - 4
Unfortunate that his attempt to block Bailey Cadamarteri’s shot deflected into the net instead as Lincoln doubled the lead, but generally lacked concentration at some key moments on and off the ball. Will miss the trip to Cambridge suspended after picking up a booking in injury time.
Ollie Turton - 4
Started well but lost Ben House’s run to the back post as Lincoln took the lead on 15 minutes, and had a lot of space down his side as the visitors got in to double their lead. Had moments where he looked bright, sharp and mobile but also took a few heavy touches at the end of those moments to render it moot.
Ben Wiles - 5
Back in a more box-to-box role after a long spell at number 10. Really poor in the first half, better after the break. Should have earned Town a penalty after being clearly shoved to the floor inside the box. Finished the game well.
David Kasumu - 7
The lone holding midfielder in possession with Kane and Wiles playing as a pair of 8s either side of him. Usual Kasumu stuff: won his challenges well and drove the ball forward.
Herbie Kane - 6
Was part of some good moves in the very early going but struggled with the box-to-box role he was given against a very quick counter-attacking Lincoln side. Still unsurprisingly looked like the Town midfielder most likely to make something happen after the break.
Josh Ruffels - 4
Got his first league start for over 14 months. No worse than anybody else in the first half but didn’t get the chance to put in an improved showing along with his teammates as he was sacrificed in a tactical sub.
Danny Ward - 4
Pretty anonymous outing, particularly after Lincoln went two goals up and were able to just put everyone back in defence to squeeze the space around the box. Dropped off slightly behind Marshall and alongside Wiles after the break in a bid to combat that, but still quiet.
Josh Koroma - 6
The balance of a poor first half and good second half. Started up top after starting at wing-back last weekend and up front in midweek. Switched to wing-back at the break with Callum Marshall coming on to partner Ward. Looked far brighter after that change and quickly set up Brodie Spencer to pull one back for Town. Finished on the left wing in a 4-3-3 and continued to look good, playing a key role in the comeback.
Substitutes
Brodie Spencer (for Pearson 42) - A direct swap, taking over at centre-back. Got into the box to score his first senior goal for the club just after half time and looked an improvement on Pearson against Lincoln’s pace. Ended the game at right-back and set up Callum Marshall’s late equaliser. 8
Lasse Sorensen (for Turton 46) - Came on to face his former club. Caused problems up the right wing but went down injured again and had to go off. 6
Callum Marshall (for Ruffels 46) - On to partner Ward, then finished on the right wing. Never really looked to be in the game and yet came up with the goods to make it 2-2, keeping his composure superbly to put an unstoppable finish through the goalkeeper. 6
Jaheim Headley (for Sorensen 73) - Played at left-back in a late switch to 4-3-3. Instantly came on and looked dangerous, getting into the opposition box twice in as many minutes to provide dangerous balls that went unfinished. Nearly gave Lincoln a chance to get in on goal and kill the game off late on before Kasumu bailed him out. 6
Freddie Ladapo (for Ward 73) - Played up the middle of the front three for the closing stages and brought good running and energy. 5
Unused substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Tom Iorpenda.
