Huddersfield Town retained list in full
Jonathan Hogg has been offered a new deal but five senior players will become free agents this summer
Huddersfield Town have announced their retained list for the season ahead, with the majority of out-of-contract players set to be released this summer.
Jonathan Hogg is an exception: the skipper is in talks with the club over a new deal that would keep him at the club.
Town also announced on Thursday evening that goalkeeper Jacob Chapman has signed a new two-year deal. The Australian youth international impressed in his first two senior outings for Town last December in the absence of Lee Nicholls and Chris Maxwell.
Loick Ayina, Jaheim Headley, Ben Jackson and Matty Pearson all had one-year extensions triggered midway through last season and are thus under contract until summer 2025.
Youngsters Neo Eccleston and Fope Deru have had one-year extensions triggered, while Michael Stone and Donnell Garrick are still in discussions over new deals.
Huddersfield Town releases
Jordan Rhodes will depart the club permanently for a second time after spending last season out on loan at Blackpool. The striker arrived back at Town in summer 2021 to act as back-up to Danny Ward and most notably scored the goal that sent Carlos Corberan’s side to Wembley with a late effort against Luton Town in the 2022 play-off semi-finals.
Yuta Nakayama will also be a free agent this summer. The Japanese international was a bit of a cult favourite among Town fans, but missed the majority of his first of two seasons at the club with a heartbreaking Achilles rupture that also scuppered his chances of representing his country at the World Cup.
Brahima Diarra was offered a new deal but has opted to depart. The Mali youth international made 46 senior outings for Town, mostly from the bench, but despite showing promise was never quite able to take the step up to regular first-team football. Town will nonetheless receive a fee from his next club as compensation due to his age.
Fellow academy graduate Aaron Rowe will also leave. The versatile wide man made his Town debut in the Premier League and had something of a run in the side during Corberan’s first season at the club, scoring a vital goal against Nottingham Forest that helped Town avoid relegation that year. Rowe was however unable to get back into a more full-strength side thereafter, and has spent the past season and a half out on loan in League Two.
Connor Mahoney is the final senior release. The winger arrived as a free agent in summer 2022 after leaving Millwall but made just 11 cameo appearances from the bench. He spent last season on loan at League Two Gillingham.
Several academy youngsters will also leave the club this summer: Charles Ondo, Giosue Bellagambi, Mustapha Olagunju, Dylan Helliwell, Archie Sheppard, David Adewoju, Shane Maroodza, Michael Acquah, Myles Bright, Ben Midgley, Hazeem Bakre, Freddie Fletcher and Aaron Ojungu.
Huddersfield Town loans come to an end
