Huddersfield Town Women continue winning streak
The Terriers beat Fylde 6-1 on a day when Kate Mallin made history
Kate Mallin celebrated her record-breaking 575th appearance for Huddersfield Town Women by providing two assists and helping her team secure three points. With this achievement, she surpassed Billy Smith to become the all-time leader in appearances for the club, across both the men’s and women’s teams. There is no doubt that Mallin’s 20-year career at Town makes her a true legend and she’s not done yet.
Glen Preston’s side got the win, cruising to victory in style. It should be noted that Fylde currently sit at the bottom of the league table, but scoring six goals is always impressive.
It may not have been Town’s best performance of the season, but Preston mentioned a couple of months ago that “someone was going to get a hiding” and that is exactly what happened .
Assistant Manager James Horner believes the team’s performance still has room for improvement and that this Town squad has more steps to take on their journey toward reaching their full potential. That may be true, but Town have won six of their last seven, drawing the other game, all while scoring 24 goals. The Terriers’ results have been great recently, and if there is another step up for this Town team to take then we are certainly excited to see it.
Horner said: “I thought we were good in parts.
“There were still elements of sloppiness and things that we could tidy up in certain areas, but ultimately, the scoreline is a really good one for us.
“There are still areas for us to improve. I think other teams could have had a hiding here. Yes, we have created a lot of opportunities but we haven’t converted them.
“Today you can see that we bore the fruits of the chances we were able to create and hopefully we can do more of that going forward.”
