Huddersfield Town Women player ratings from convincing win against York City
Town gain valuable three points after beating York City Ladies 2-0
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 8
Made a crucial reflex save, flinging her right leg out to keep Town in the lead. Impressively recovered a horror back pass, getting wiped out in the process of clearing the ball. Loads of saves all afternoon and well-deserving of her clean sheet. A great all-round display from the young shot-stopper.
Ria Montgomery - 6
Will be thanking Bolton-Woollam for an impressive save after the ball slid underneath her foot to send Grace Sykes through for York. Made up for it on the couple of occasions she had to sweep behind her centre-backs and clear the ball.
Autumn Housley - 7
A disciplined display at centre-back. Executed a tackle to perfection in the second half as she was left stranded with two York attackers running towards her. She took her time, stepping in to win the ball at the opportune moment. Took a clattering at one point but battled on.
Serena Fletcher - 6
Her first game this season. Had a fairly balanced performance, with some great challenges and comfortable moments on the ball, but looked a little rusty at points. Still, nothing that put Town in trouble. A good first game back.
Rebecca Beresford - 6
Got Town going from the off, kick-starting a handful of attacks, one of which eventually led to McMahon’s opener. Was up and down the left, but always in position to do her defensive duties.
Ella Duffield - 6
Played as a typical number eight, distributing the ball around the field with efficiency, dropping into the full-back areas when necessary. Got slightly further forward in the second half.
Beth Stanfield - 6
Town’s captain provided structure in the midfield, allowing her full-backs to push higher. Won the ball back a few times. Not a game where she particularly stood out, but she was integral to how Town were able to get forward.
Charlotte Stuart - 6
Won a couple of headers in the opposition box but nothing that truly troubled the keeper. More importantly, she rose highest in her own box to clear any danger.
Leah Embley - 6
Was unlucky not to add to her tally for the season when she went one-on-one early in the second half, with her shot just kissing the outside of the far post. Her expression was one of disbelief that she hadn’t doubled Town’s lead. Did well to connect with Montgomery’s ball in behind, but her touch around the keeper ran away from her.
Scarlett McMahon - 7
In the right place at the right time to put Town ahead from eight yards out. Didn’t have the busiest of days other than that, but strikers are there to score goals, and that is exactly what she did. Was replaced just after the hour mark.
Yasmin Mason - 7
Quick. Like, really quick. The combination of her tidy footwork and final delivery, together with electric pace, was often too much for York to handle. Involved in both Town goals, crossing from the left flank. Picked up a slight knock when she was trodden on but continued until being substituted after 70 minutes.
Substitutes
Ashley Tiripke (for McMahon 66) - Brought necessary energy for Town just when they needed it. Turned the York defender on the halfway line and got Town up the pitch. 6
Molly Firth (for Mason 71) - Wide on the left side. Didn’t have much to do after coming on. 6
Unused substitutes: Lauren Joyce.
