Huddersfield Town Women player ratings as they beat Accrington Stanley
Town go into the next round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Accrington
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 8
Remained focused throughout the first half despite little action around her goal. Even so, she was ready when called upon, diving to her right to keep a low Ocean Flanagan effort out. Closed Niamh Corrigan down when the forward went through on goal, narrowing the angle enough to make a good stop.
Ria Montgomery - 7
Played high on the right but dropped to a more orthodox right back role when Accrington equalised. Helped out Embley and Firth, who both played ahead of her.
Autumn Housley - 7
Made some vital stops when Accrington went on the break, cutting them out at the right moment. Played as a centre-half but demonstrated versatility by using the ball out wide. Came off after 60 minutes.
Beth Ibbotson - 7
Got Town out of a couple of difficult spots when Accrington pressed high. Incredibly composed on the ball, dropping the shoulder and carrying it into the midfield.
Rebecca Beresford - 7
Left-back on paper but doubled up as Town’s left winger again. At points she was Town’s most forward player. It left Town a little exposed at the back at times but the positives outweighed the negatives as she whipped in some tasty low crosses.
Ella Duffield - 7
Probably the deepest role that we have seen her play so far this season. Picked up the ball from the defence on the half turn and pushed the team forward.
Beth Stanfield - 7
A metronome in Town’s midfield, keeping things ticking over. Got clattered into a few times but remained resilient. Pressed until the very end.
Charlotte Stuart - 8
More goals for the Town midfielder. The first was another well executed header from a Mallin corner. For the second, she made some smart movement in the box, allowing Mason to set her up for a tidy finish. Got booked late on for kicking the ball away.
Leah Embley - 7
Caused issues for the Accrington defence with her tricky footwork and turn of pace. Got down the right side and whipped crosses into the box. Also played as an inverted forward when Montgomery went beyond her.
Scarlett McMahon - 7
Dropped a little deeper than a standard centre forward, playing more of a false-nine role. Received the ball from the two deepest midfielders, laying it off to Stuart or either wing. Replaced before the hour mark.
Kate Mallin - 7
Set up Stuart’s goal with a superb floated corner. Could have had a couple more assists but the ball just wouldn’t fall to the right place in the box.
Substitutes
Yasmin Mason (for McMahon 53) - An entirely different player compared to McMahon. Had a shot blocked in the box but used the rebound to set up Stuart for her second. 7
Serena Fletcher (for Housley 63) - Cleared the ball left, right and centre when Town needed to escape danger. 6
Molly Firth (for Embley 79) - Couldn’t push forward as Town needed to remain solid defensively. 6
Unused substitutes: Lauren Joyce.
