Huddersfield Town Women player ratings from bleak defeat against Middlesbrough
A goal direct from a corner ensured that Boro completed the double over the Terriers this season
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 6
Had to make an unorthodox save when Georgia Gibson’s speculative effort was held up by the wind. Claimed the ball that was coming towards her at an awkward trajectory. Unsure whether the blame lies with her or her defence for Boro’s goal direct from a corner.
Autumn Housley - 6
Began the game a little sluggishly - which is not like her. A couple of loose passes and not tracking back as hard as normal. Settled more as the game went on, and eventually was back at the levels we are used to seeing.
Serena Fletcher - 6
Had the thankless task of dealing with a centre forward much taller than her in Jess Mett. Despite the difference in height, the striker was kept relatively quiet. Swapped with Housley later in the game, trying to change the dynamic.
Beth Ibbotson - 6
Cleaned up behind Fletcher, putting in a crucial block to deny Becky Ferguson. Didn’t do anything wrong in the game, so will disappointed to be coming away empty-handed.
Rebecca Beresford - 7
Ventured into the box a few times but couldn’t quite latch on the ball in behind, as it would often roll through to the goalkeeper. Spent as much of the game on the floor as she did on her feet - credit to her for putting a shift in.
Beth Stanfield - 6
Broke down a lot of Boro’s midfield play, shifting Town from defence to attack. Should have backed herself more when opportunities opened up for her to shoot from distance.
Ella Duffield - 6
Kept everything ticking over for Town. Constantly available to receive the ball no matter where the ball is on the pitch. Occasionally can get bypassed when the opposition slice through the midfield.
Charlotte Stuart - 6
Stepped up to press alongside Astle, in a front two off the ball. Came close to scoring from a Mallin corner that dropped on top the goalkeeper, with her header crashing against the crossbar. Made an incredible goal line clearance that unfortunately won’t get any credit due to the result.
Leah Embley - 5
Found the space wide on the right that she thrives in, but a combination of the conditions and execution meant that her crosses didn’t cause much trouble for the Boro defence.
Katie Astle - 5
A quiet day for Town’s number 9. No real opportunities to speak of, not for the lack of trying, it was just a scrappy game. Dropped deeper to become more involved in the action.
Kate Mallin - 7
Full of fancy flicks and tight turns. Seems to enjoy playing with Beresford behind her, moving inside and allowing the fullback to career down the left. Did her best to get Town going but it just wouldn’t work for them.
