Huddersfield Town Women player ratings from 2-1 win at York City
Glen Preston's side used a new 3-4-3 shape to beat York City Ladies
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 6
Struggled to distribute the ball with her feet in the first half. Tipped Jess Holder’s long-range effort high into the air, recovering to swipe the ball away as it dropped on her goal line.
Serena Fletcher - 7
Stepped out of defence frequently, winning the ball higher up the field. Seemed to win every tackle, defending extremely efficiently. Caught in a muddle for York’s goal, misplacing her pass out from the back.
Autumn Housley - 7
In the heart of Town’s defence. Threw her body around to deny York from sniffing in and around the Town box. Swept up behind Fletcher and Ibbotson when required.
Beth Ibbotson- 7
Comfortable on the left of Town’s back three. Managed to get forward when the situation was right. Showed confidence throughout, never backing away from a challenge or physical altercation.
Rebecca Beresford - 6
Made a few wrong decisions when she got forward. As she found some space, it felt as though she would be able burst beyond defenders, just needed to back herself a little more.
Ella Duffield - 6
Ticked the midfield over but didn’t stand out. Not necessarily a bad thing, as she didn’t make any glaring errors. Made some important tackles in the closing stages.
Beth Stanfield - 6
Battled hard to win the ball back for the second goal, pressing high and reaping the benefits of it. Lead by example, running herself into the ground until the final whistle.
Yasmin Mason - 7
In charge of Town’s entire left flank. Anticipated attacks, making herself more available to receive the ball in wider areas. Hounded the opposition when they felt they had time on the ball.
Caz Simone - 8
Played as an inside forward, finding pockets of space between York’s midfield and defence. Hit a dangerous ball across the box, resulting in York’s Emily Cattle directing the ball into her own goal. Managed to take two defenders out of the game before unselfishly squaring the ball to Stuart for Town’s second goal.
Kate Mallin - 7
Used some nifty footwork to create some room before dinking the ball over the York back line, assisting the assist for Town’s second goal.
Charlotte Stuart - 7
Lead the line in the absence of Katie Astle. It was a case of simply picking up really threatening areas that lead to her bagging Town’s second goal. Lurking in the box, she was left completely alone at the back post, making easy work of the chance she was presented. Went off with an ankle injury late on.
Substitutes
Fliss Jones (for Mallin 73) - Came on to make her debut for the club. Showed a nice burst of pace. Booked for time wasting. 6
Molly Firth (for Beresford 73) - Brought on to bring energy to Town’s right hand side. 6
Ashley Tiripke (for Stuart 83) - Replaced the injured Stuart. Cautioned for challenge she had every right to go for. 6
