Huddersfield Town Women player ratings from wet and windy draw against Barnsley
Glen Preston's side had the lead but ended up drawing 1-1 at home
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 7
Pulled out some cracking saves to keep Town ahead in the first half. Didn’t manage to get a strong enough hand on Freya Walton’s header for Barnsley’s equaliser.
Ria Montgomery - 6
Back in the side on the right of Town’s back line. Had a quiet game, which we suppose is alright for a defender. Did well to play 25 minutes in the second half considering the limp she had when walking off at half-time.
Beth Stanfield - 7
Started at centre-back after a few weeks in midfield. Defended admirably in tough conditions, having to recover on the occasions when Barnsley knocked a ball in behind.
Beth Ibbotson - 7
Back to her best, not that her levels had dropped that much. Frequently carried the ball forward for Town. Consistently vocal, whether she was supporting her team, berating the referee or bellowing at the Barnsley dugout.
Yasmin Mason - 8
Featured at left-back for Town, but it was going forward when she excelled, creating an overload on the left along with Firth. Made a couple of Barnsley defenders look silly when she danced around them and popped it between their legs. Ended up playing as Town’s number nine in the final 20 minutes.
Caz Simone - 6
Brought structure to Town’s central areas. They couldn’t quite thread the required pass to release the forward line at times. Covered a lot of grass on and off the ball. Still managed to use the ball efficiently.
Charlotte Stuart - 8
Back in central midfield, she took the game by the scruff of the neck from the early stages with a few well-timed tackles and driving runs. Scored an absolute banger from 35 yards, placed perfectly above the goalkeeper and below the crossbar.
Ella Duffield - 6
Played a little deeper than usual so didn’t manage to get in the areas that she usually thrives in. Was subbed off late on — her first moment of rest this season.
Leah Embley - 6
Attempted to loop it over the keeper when the ball was given to her by the Barnsley defence but her effort dropped just wide. Played on Town’s right and left.
Kate Mallin - 7
First line of defence. Hounded the Barnsley backline and was close to getting her reward when she chased down the goalkeeper, but the ball just ran out of play. Didn’t have many, if any, chances to release a shot before she was replaced by Beresford.
Molly Firth - 6
Her first appearance since her nasty injury at Chorley. Was on the left flank but drifted inside regularly to create space for Mason to fly down the wing beyond her. Shifted onto the right side in the second half and put a shift in.
Substitutes
Rebecca Beresford (for Mallin 68) - Came on at left wing-back in order for Mason to push further up the field. Preston requested that she play higher as Town went in search of a winner. 6
Autumn Housley (for Montgomery 72) - Barnsley’s winger appeared to have the run on her with ten minutes to go, but she put in a perfect sliding challenge to win back the ball and halt the attack. 7
Scarlett McMahon (for Duffield 84) - Put on up front in an attempt to get Town a winner. N/A
Ashley Tiripke (for Firth 84) - Town’s right winger; didn’t have much to do. N/A
Unused substitutes: Lauren Joyce.
