Huddersfield Town Women player ratings as they rescue a point against Norton & Stockton
Town Women left it late with brace from substitute Scarlett McMahon to secure a 2-2 draw at home.
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 6
Casually plucked a cross out of the sky with one hand, very nice. Couldn’t do much about either of Bianca Owens goals. The first was hit from close range at the back post, and the second a strike from distance that dinked in off the crossbar. Made a save from an Owens free kick late on, also doing a bit of sweeping duties when required.
Autumn Housley - 6
Looked to progress the ball often down the right side, swinging in the occasional cross. Stepped up into midfield when Town were in the final third. Linked up well with Devins on the right before they both were substituted.
Beth Ibbotson - 6
Wearing the armband in Stanfield’s absence. Visibly frustrated when she gave the ball away lazily in the first half but recovered well with a sliding challenge. Not the only time her distribution went wayward. Had a chance to have a pop on goal, her first effort was blocked with the second ending up being too tame to trouble the goalkeeper. Was booked late on for an inadvertent handball that stopped Owens from getting in behind. Norton & Stockton wanted a red card for a deliberate handball but that would have been harsh. Loves a bit of the dark arts at times.
Ria Montgomery- 6
Overlapped on the left side to help out Mason. Crossed in a looping ball that nearly caught out the keeper, hit with such ferocity that it knocked her hat off… literally. Perhaps got the wrong side of Owens on the first goal but tough to tell, definitely wouldn’t put any blame towards her.
Caitlin Devins - 6
Headed just wide from an Embley cross that can only have missed by a few inches. Second half performance was improved, playing high down the right side whilst maintaining her defensive cover.
Caz Simone - 8
Always busy buzzing around the midfield. Drops deeper to play almost a ‘quarterback’ style, otherwise known as a regista for the football geeks (sorry). Laid it on a plate for McMahon to score, making their way through the defence and playing it back into the middle. Key figure in Town’s resurgence, leaving everything on the pitch.
Charlotte Stuart - 6
Strong presence in the middle of the pitch. Had a chance similar to the one she scored from last week but ballooned it over the bar. Looks more and more comfortable in the side.
Ella Duffield - 6
Available to collect the ball from the deeper midfielders and use her tidy footwork to create space for herself. Was brought down in the box in what looked like a penalty but the referee waved it away.
Yasmin Mason - 6
Lingered on the line of the oppositions defence, making inside runs from wide positions. Struck a first time volley into the side netting, took the chance well but just the wrong side of the post.
Kate Mallin - 8
So close to scoring in the first half after hooking a volley on the swivel, producing a diving save from the keeper. Chipped a lovely ball over the back line to find Mason whose volley hit the side netting. Kept going to the very end, playing some brilliant crosses into the box but Town couldn’t quite connect.
Leah Embley - 6
Had the first chance of the game with a shot from outside the box after two minutes. Fired over the bar in the second half when the ball dropped to her feet inside the box. Continues to be a real handful for defenders.
Substitutes
Molly Firth (for Mason 73) - Came onto the left side, providing plenty of pace in the final stages. 6
Rebecca Beresford (for Devins 73) - Played a crucial part in Town’s equaliser. Up and down the right side bringing bundles of energy. Takes a lot of credit for Town’s late comeback. 8
Beth Stanfield (for Housley 73) - Influential in helping to change the game after coming on, whipping in crosses and ensuring that most of the final 20 minutes were played in the opposition’s half. 7
Scarlett McMahon (for Embley 80) - Impact substitution. Showed her striker instincts in the box. Linked up well with Simone for her first goal. In the right place for her second as she hit it first time beyond the keeper. Dreamy. 9
Unused substitutes: Lauren Joyce.
