Huddersfield Town Women ratings as they dig deep to beat Stockport County
Two wins in two for Town as Glen Preston's side keep another clean sheet and earn a 1-0 victory at home
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 9
Did well to tip the ball over the bar after a well-struck shot from distance in the first-half. Confidently distributed the ball with both feet when Town looked to play out from the back. A couple more important saves in the second half that kept Town’s clean sheet secure. Impressive performance, ensuring that Town haven’t conceded yet this season.
Autumn Housley - 6
Performed on the right side of a back three and then as a right-back in the second period. Got booted up in the air after beating Stockport’s Weston in a foot race. Carried out both her roles well. Shifted to left-back following Devins’ departure.
Beth Ibbotson - 7
Solid in the centre of defence, often sweeping behind her back line with a strong aerial presence. Cleared the ball off the goal line just moments after Town took the lead.
Beth Stanfield- 6
Couldn’t produce enough power in her strike in a second-half effort on goal. Lead her back line well when Stockport had Town on the ropes for a 10 minute period.
Caitlin Devins - 6
Played the first 45 minutes on the right wing before moving to left-back after the half-time break. Displayed high energy pressing on both sides of the pitch.
Caz Simone - 7
Busy in the midfield. Often dropped into pockets either side of the defence, looking to create space in the middle. Perfect weight on a pass that sent Firth down the left channel in the early stages. The midfielder covered plenty of grass and was committed on and off the ball for the full game.
Charlotte Stuart - 9
Gave Town the lead, tucking away a bouncing ball into the bottom-left corner, leaving the Stockport keeper rooted to the spot. Broke up Stockport’s play throughout. Strong in the challenge, regained the ball and immediately looked to play forward. Directed a strong header towards goal from a Mallin corner, but the referee ruled she had pushed her marker in the back. Booked late on for blatantly stopping a Stockport counter.
Ella Duffield - 7
Linked play between the midfield and forward line effectively. Fantastic on the half-turn, dropping her shoulder and driving into space. Slipped through a couple of passes for Embley that fell perfectly into the striker’s stride.
Molly Firth - 7
Caused trouble off Town’s left flank. Got in behind a handful of times, linking up well with Mallin. Frequently cut inside onto her right foot, whipping the ball across the box, putting one in the ‘corridor of uncertainty’ that Devins couldn’t quite reach. Tested the Stockport keeper with a low effort to the near post that was just kept out.
Kate Mallin - 7
Quality dead-ball delivery all afternoon. Corners and free-kicks were fizzed and lofted in and around the Stockport goal. Had a strike on goal in the second half which the goalkeeper did well to push wide.
Leah Embley - 7
Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Worked tirelessly to hound the Stockport defence, constantly trying to get in behind them. Her shots were either blocked or saved, but she did well when playing through the middle and then later off the right.
