Huddersfield Town Women ratings from battling FA WNL Cup defeat
Glen Preston's side are out of the cup after losing 3-1 at home to higher-tier Hull City
Lauren Joyce - 6
Was involved in a mix-up with Stanfield that resulted in Hull City opening the scoring. That lead could have been easily doubled moments later had she not produced a fine double save. Again, holds part of the blame for the third goal, but she had made saves that kept Town in it for a while.
Autumn Housley - 7
Timed her challenges superbly. Pushed on down the right to help Embley’s attacking efforts. Didn’t put a foot wrong defensively. Created some lovely triangles with Duffield and Embley in the first half that created a lot of space for her two team mates to put to use.
Beth Ibbotson - 6
Halted some Hull City’s counter-attacks with her strength and positioning. Couldn’t do much about any of Hull City’s three goals but will frustrated to concede them. Won her aerial battles when tested.
Beth Stanfield- 5
Played some lovely looking passes out to Embley on the right side to get Town on the offensive. Unfortunately, was caught on the ball in dangerous areas a couple of times in the game by Maddi Green to gift Hull City their first and third goals.
Yasmin Mason - 6
Again, operating as an overlapping wing-back on Town’s left. Got forward plenty of times with her ridiculous pace but her delivery into the box wasn’t at its finest. Continued to bomb down the left until being replaced.
Caz Simone - 6
Did a crucial job of screening just in front of their defence, winning the ball back on key occasions where Hull City started to bomb forward. Remained busy until the very end, getting a yellow card for stopping another Tigress attack.
Charlotte Stuart - 8
Appeared to play a role higher up the field, arriving late in the box. Was unlucky not to score herself with two headed chances, the first hitting the post and the second forcing the goalkeeper to parry to Embley who hit home. Came so close to scoring in the second half with another header that just whistled wide of the post.
Ella Duffield - 6
Floated out on the right when Embley tucked inside a little. Causes real problems for defenders when she receives the ball on the half turn. Was more present in the first half rather than the second. Seems to play with fluidity when linking with Embley and Housley.
Kate Mallin - 6
Played on Town’s left flank. Had a couple of rusty moments with the ball in the first few minutes but quickly began to look comfortable on the wing. Linked up well with the overlapping Mason. Had a glorious chance to give Town the lead late in the first half when McMahon squared it to her but she blazed it over the bar.
Scarlett McMahon - 6
Unselfishly squared the ball to Mallin instead of trying to shoot and squeeze it beyond the bodies in front of her. Didn’t particularly have any clear chances to test the keeper but did her best to create those opportunities for her team mates.
Leah Embley - 8
Was in the right place at the right time to score Town’s leveller, following in on Stuart’s saved effort — good poaching. Did a great job stretching play out on the right side. Whipped in some cracking crosses towards Stuart and McMahon. One of her best performances in a Town shirt, and one that didn’t reflect the result.
Substitutes
Molly Firth (for Mason 74) - Entered on the left side, doing exactly what Mason was, attempting to play as high as possible. 6
Ria Montgomery (for Housley 74) - Was left on her own at the back late-on but managed to stop Hull City from breaking. 6
Ashley Tiripke (for McMahon 74) - The ball fell to her feet a couple of times in and around the Hull City box but she was crowded out before being able to get a pure strike on goal. 6
Unused substitutes: Kacey Bolton-Woollam.
