Huddersfield Town Women ratings from tough trip to Middlesbrough
Town Women were the second best side on the day, not creating enough going forward, eventually succumbing to a 2-0 defeat
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 6
Required to make a couple of routine saves, comfortable in doing so. Ambidextrous in her distribution, getting Town out of a couple of difficult spots. Potentially could have had a little more presence for Boro’s first goal. Beaten by a good crack from distance for the second.
Autumn Housley - 7
Was given plenty of time on the ball as Boro looked to sit deep. Used it effectively, carrying the ball up the right and driving Town forward. One of Town’s strongest performers before departing after 81 minutes.
Charlotte Stuart - 6
Had the thankless task of dealing with Boro’s big centre forward Jess Mett, which provided a tough test for Town’s central defender. Played a perfect 45 yard pass into the box to find Mason but Town’s winger couldn’t take advantage.
Beth Ibbotson- 6
Capable on the ball other than she played the ball back towards Bolton-Woollam’s vacant net but Town’s keeper easily recovered. Got caught on the ball, allowing Ellen Turnbull in on goal but a combination of Stuart and Bolton-Woollam recovered the situation. A moment that could have been costly for Town.
Rebecca Beresford - 6
Attempted to get the run on her full-back but didn’t find much success against a more than capable Boro defence. Moved over to the left when Town changed shape chasing the game.
Caz Simone - 6
Struck a sweet half volley that could have caused real trouble had there not been a crowd of bodies in the Boro box. Played a little higher at times when Town had control.
Beth Stanfield - 5
Sat in front of the bank of three defenders, allowing Simone to push a little further forward. Sometimes avoided playing the simple pass, opting to go for the ol’ route one approach.
Ella Duffield - 5
Grew more into the game when exploitable gaps began to appear between Boro’s defence and midfield but still had a relatively quiet match for her standards.
Yasmin Mason - 6
Made a run in behind to connect with a Stuart long diagonal, but couldn’t loop her first-time volleyed effort towards goal. Did more in her own half defensively than on the offensive end, which is a credit to her in fairness.
Kate Mallin - 6
Whipped in a corner that should have given Town the lead. The ball bounced through the six-yard box untouched and went out for a goal kick. Was visibly disappointed to be taken off the field after 74 minutes.
Leah Embley - 5
Perhaps showed that it was her first game returning from injury. Had a couple of moments where she could have maybe made different decisions. Could have worked a pass towards a free Mallin in the first half but chose to shoot with three defenders in front of her.
Substitutes
Ashley Tiripke (for Mallin 72) - Was sent on when the Boro had just taken the lead. That lead doubled just moments later. Tough to influence the game from that point onwards. 6
Ria Montgomery (for Housley 81) - Made a superb block to stop it from becoming three for Boro. 7
Unused substitutes: Lauren Joyce, Scarlett McMahon, Molly Firth.
