Huddersfield Town Women suffer first defeat since September
Two division gap proves too much as the Terriers lose 4-0 to Sunderland in the FA Cup
Huddersfield Town Women were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline, ending their seven-game unbeaten streak. On a day when Storm Darragh was in full effect, Glen Preston’s side put in a hearty FA Cup performance against a full-strength Sunderland side.
Preston said: “It was a tough, tough game really.
“The wind wreaked havoc. In the first half, the wind was around 50 miles per hour. In the second, it dropped to 10 or 20 miles an hour. We were against the elements and opposition.
“We recognised that there was a big gulf; they’re full-time and we’re not. They had the physical superiority and technical superiority.
“We had to recognise that and sit in, trying to frustrate them. With the wind, it pinned us down in any case, so whether we wanted to play a bit more expansive or not, it was impossible.”
