The Terriers are likely to be busy in this summer's transfer window, with question marks and gaps in most positions

Goalkeepers

Jacob Chapman: The goalkeeper’s run in the side last year coincided with Town’s best spell of the season. At one stage, Chapman kept nine clean sheets in just 15 league games — no doubt a massive factor in the Australian coming second in the fans’ player of the year vote.

There were a couple of nervy performances, though, particularly after Jon Worthington restored him to the side for the final two games of the campaign. The big question is whether Town see him as a potential long-term number one who just needs a bit of patience and an extended run of games or whether they’re content for him to remain as backup.

Lee Nicholls: Town’s more or less undisputed number one since he arrived. He’s never been able to replicate that astonishing season he had in 2021/22, but Nicholls remains an excellent goalkeeper who would walk into pretty much every League One starting line-up — and some Championship sides, too.

Distribution has always been the big black mark against Nicholls, and Chapman is much better with his feet. At this level, though, that is unlikely to be a factor unless the new head coach puts a premium on his keeper’s kicking.

Transfer needs: Town have two goalkeepers we’re happy with and we suspect they are as well. However, there is arguably a place in the squad for a third after Chris Maxwell’s retirement. By no means a priority, though.
