Jack Rudoni's influence and a lucky escape in five conclusions on Millwall 1-1 Huddersfield Town
Darren Moore's side looked better on the ball but only to a point - quite literally
1. That was too close for comfort
Ah, the excoriating paragraphs upon paragraphs Huddersfield Town have been spared here. Just four minutes from time, we had already started drafting something of a screed about how unacceptable it was to slip into the bottom three, regardless of the circumstances and regardless of what positives we were actually able to find in this game.
And then, as sometimes happens in football, it all changed. Queens Park Rangers lost their lead, but were still ahead on goal difference.
And then…
Rather fortuitously, Town were awarded the penalty that earned them their late point, enough to lift them back out of the relegation zone even before word filtered through that there had also been late drama at Hillsborough, with QPR conceding again. In just a few minutes, Town had gone from slipping below that horrible dotted line to having extended their advantage.
As we will get into in a moment, we actually felt Town just about deserved their reprieve on the day; if we were going to slate them for dropping down into the danger zone regardless on the grounds that results are all that matter at this stage, then we should probably also let them off a little bit for having rescued it.
Nonetheless, those 40 minutes or so of that dreadful sinking feeling are quite enough of that for this season, thanks. Not that any of you needed it, but this was a reminder of just how much Town are playing with fire (and at the former home of Kane, appropriately enough).
