Skipper Jonathan Hogg extends Huddersfield Town stay with new contract
The veteran midfielder will continue to lead the side from the pitch in League One next season
Jonathan Hogg has signed a one-year extension to his contract at Huddersfield Town, keeping him at the club for a 12th consecutive season.
The club announced in their retained list last month that the 35-year-old Terriers skipper was in negotiations over a new deal.
Hogg is closing in on his 400th appearance for Town after arriving from Watford in the summer of 2013. If he hits that milestone he would be just the seventh player in the club's history to do so — the most recent being Andy Booth. Nine more outings would take Hogg to 381, placing him in the top ten for most appearances of all time.
He is also the only remaining holdout from Town's two-year spell in the Premier League as they now prepare for life in League One following five seasons back in the Championship.
In an article published on the club’s website, Hogg said: "I had no doubt at all in my mind about extending my contact here. I’ve said it before, but this is my club and I couldn’t picture myself playing anywhere else now.
"Having been here over a decade, I know Town in good times and bad, and while the past couple of seasons haven’t gone to plan, I’m determined to play my part in helping to put that right in whatever way I can.
"Speaking to both Mark [Cartwright, sporting director] and Michael [Duff, head coach] about their plans for the future, that’s something I want to be part of.
"Whenever I’m called on, I will continue to give everything I have for Huddersfield Town, just as I have since the day I arrived almost 11 years ago."
Town are expected to have a busy summer in the transfer market, but have yet to announce any brand new signings or any departures beyond those whose exits were confirmed on the retained list, including Yuta Nakayama, Jordan Rhodes and Brahima Diarra.
