Lack of ruthlessness costs Town Women again
Despite having more clear-cut chances than Middlesbrough, Town lost the game 1-0 at Storthes Hall
Let’s be clear, the conditions that both Town and Middlesbrough experienced at Storthes Hall did not allow for either side to take a firm grip of the fixture. Strong winds, blowing so strong that both teams VEO cameras toppled over and nearly took out the assistant referee. The pitch was heavy, the ball was skidding around off the surface and it all combined to make it exceptionally tough for two sides who enjoy possession of the ball to actually put it to use.
Huddersfield Town tried their best to get the ball popping around on the deck but nothing would fall for the home side.
Manager Glen Preston said:
“I’m angry to be honest. I think the points were there for the taking, and I think we were the better of the two sides throughout, the better footballing side anyway.
“We didn’t really have to deal with many problems for 90 minutes, and yet we find a way to lose the game.
“We have missed big chances again to secure the victory. We had three good chances in the first half, predominantly from set-pieces, but we didn’t get it over the line, we hit the bar on one.
“Then we get the one v one big moment, we don’t get it. The penalty doesn’t go for us, which to me was cast iron from where I was.
“In the end, they go and score a fortuitous goal, that’s direct from a corner, that we have moved out of the way from, thinking it’s going to hit the side netting, and allowed it to creep in at the near post.
“I am absolutely disappointed because I thought we were a better side than Middlesbrough today and I thought we deserved something from the match.”
