Mark Cartwright dismissed as Huddersfield Town sporting director
The Terriers have confirmed that Cartwright's time at the club has come to an end
Huddersfield Town have relieved Mark Cartwright from his duties as sporting director.
Cartwright arrived at the club following Kevin Nagle’s takeover in 2023 and was tasked with overseeing a squad revamp to help move the club away from battling relegation from the Championship.
Town were relegated last season, however, with Neil Warnock, Darren Moore and Andre Breitenreiter all having spells in charge.
The club invested in new players last summer with the stated objective of earning promotion straight back from League One but now sit ninth in the table with just three games to play following Friday's 2-1 defeat at home to Cambridge United.
Michael Duff was dismissed as head coach in March and results have only continued to decline under the Jon Worthington’s interim spell.
Cartwright had been heavily criticised by supporters and had not been present at the club’s past three games.
Town CEO Jake Edwards said in a club statement: “Undergoing a full review of our sporting operations ahead of another important summer for the Club, we have made the difficult decision to relieve Mark of his duties with immediate effect.
“Retaining the full support of the Chairman, our collective efforts will be focussed on completing a positive summer of activity both on and off the field, allowing us to head into the 2025/26 season with a renewed belief and confidence in all departments.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank Mark for his efforts during his time at Huddersfield Town and wish him the very best for the future.”
