Huddersfield Town had already begun their hunt for Andre Breitenreiter’s successor even before announcing the head coach had left the club on Friday evening.

Making a swift appointment would give the new gaffer the chance to have practically a full summer of planning and work to get stuck into – the first time any Huddersfield Town boss has had that privilege since Carlos Corberan in 2021.

They’re going to need it, because there is more on the to-do list even than any of their many mid-season appointments have faced. Things like…

Get a full and frank picture of the issues at the club

One of Breitenreiter’s comments was that if he had known the scale of the issues, he may have had second thoughts about taking the post back in February.

But this is not a time for Town to put a happy face on things as part of their sales pitch to a new boss. Between Breitenreiter’s comments and Kevin Nagle’s, it is public knowledge that there are many issues that need to be addressed. Attempting to hide that now would do more harm than good in the long run.
