Player ratings as ten-man Huddersfield Town held to another frustrating draw
The Terriers struggled to break down bottom side Rotherham even before Sorba Thomas' dismissal for two yellow cards
Lee Nicholls - 7
Put himself in the right positions to intervene when required. Created one or two potential openings with some well-spotted long balls.
Matty Pearson - 7
Did well to put Charlie Wyke off on the rebound when Andy Rinomhota hit the post early on. Promising delivery in for Jaheim Headley later in the first half that the wing-back was unable to meet firmly enough.
Michal Helik - 7
Had one poor moment at the byline that allowed Rotherham a shooting opportunity, but otherwise stood very solid against some hefty centre-forwards.
Radinio Balker - 6
Made his first start under Andre Breitenreiter following his quad injury. As expected, gave Town a different dimension when playing out from the back thanks to his passing range and ability to carry the ball forward when passing options were lacking. Didn’t get everything right but effective when he did.
Brodie Spencer - 6
Booked for rather a wild challenge midway through the first half, but otherwise remained responsible with his defending. Consistently got into good crossing positions up the right but final ball was never really quite there.
David Kasumu - 5
Felt aggrieved not to be given a penalty after (replays showed) being caught by a challenge inside the box by Rinomhota — the contact was slight, but was there, making Kasumu’s yellow card for diving very harsh at the very least. Won second balls a bit better than some of his teammates but didn’t offer a huge amount on the ball, and was sacrificed to make way for Wiles at the break.
Jonathan Hogg - 7
Solid throughout but particularly came into his own after Town were reduced to ten men, helping to make sure Town didn’t get overrun despite their numerical disadvantage.
Jack Rudoni - 6
Hard-working as always on and off the ball, constantly trying to offer himself as an option for teammates to use in the final third. Had to become almost a second striker to cover for Thomas’ absence in the second half. Touch let him down at times but also had little in the way of options with Town down to ten men, so had to try things he might not otherwise.
Jaheim Headley - 4
Caught out of position off a fair few long balls after misreading where it was going. Needed a bit more support at times when Rotherham doubled up down that flank. Couldn’t quite connect to a good Pearson cross late in the first half, putting a glancing header wide instead.
Sorba Thomas - 4
Was given an absolute nonsense of a booking early in the second half for a supposed foul on Sean Morrison. Subsequently dismissed for a second yellow after challenge he had to try and make on Ollie Rathbone to stop him going clean through on Nicholls on the counter-attack.
Delano Burgzorg - 5
Played facilitator more than he sometimes does with some handy and unselfish touches around the corners of the box. Had to play as a lone striker following Thomas’ dismissal. Had some efforts on goal but none really offered much trouble.
Substitutes
Ben Wiles (for Kasumu 45) - Introduced at the break at the home of his former club. Better work rate than his last outing and tried to find balls in behind in a way that wasn’t really happening prior. Took over set piece duty after Thomas was sent off. 5
Tom Edwards (for Spencer 90+2) - n/a
Unused substitutes: Chris Maxwell, Ben Jackson, Brahima Diarra, Alex Matos, Pat Jones, Josh Koroma, Danny Ward.
