Player ratings as Huddersfield Town go through motions on pointless final day
Yeah whatever
Chris Maxwell - 4
Made his first appearance since Boxing Day. Should have kept out Ipswich’s second having got down to it well and got a hand to it, but it managed to get past him. Good save to deny Luongo’s curling effort to the top corner later on.
Ollie Turton - 6
Got more minutes in the tank, which continues to be lovely to see. Made some good interceptions.
Tom Edwards - 5
Made his first start since the trip to Leeds in October, lining up as the rightmost of Town’s three centre-backs with Ollie Turton at right-back. Did alright in the circumstances, though efforts to play it out from the back were often wayward.
Michal Helik - 5
Struggled a bit with some of Ipswich’s direct attack running straight at him, including on Omari Hutchinson’s goal, where both he and Pearson went to close off George Hirst (not the baddie from Deadwood) instead with neither of them closing down Hutchinson.
Matty Pearson - 5
Generally decent up against Wes Burns but let him go free rather too easily as he fired the hosts into the lead. Mix-up with Helik on the second goal not great either. Better reactions to stop Hirst getting clean through midway through the second half and finished the game in better form.
Ben Jackson - 5
Caught upfield on several of Ipswich’s many attacks, which is a bit curious given how little Town were actually on the attack. Good challenge later in the game to stop another through ball, and had a better spell in the final 15 minutes or so.
Jack Rudoni - 3
Offered little in his 30 minutes on the pitch and was culpable for Ipswich’s first-half goal after getting caught in possession running back towards his own goal and making only a half-hearted effort to win it back. Subbed off practically immediately in what we presume was another message from Andre Breitenreiter.
David Kasumu - 4
Started alright, in relative terms, but was altogether too casual in his effort to win the ball on the second goal. Increasingly ineffective in preventing Ipswich finding space between the lines.
Ben Wiles - 4
Present.
Danny Ward - n/a
Kept demanding balls that he could actually run onto but rarely got them with the Terriers largely constrained to their own half and mostly playing at half-pace. Did well to get to what scraps did go his way.
Rhys Healey - n/a
Likewise, though also started coming deep to actually try and get onto the ball at times. Cut a very frustrated figure.
Substitutes
Alex Matos (for Rudoni 30) - Usual mixed bag of inch-perfect tackles and silly rash challenges, which at least brought a bit of entertainment value to proceedings. Which will it be next? You never quite know. At least showed a bit of commitment and fire which is more than we can say for most. 6
Tom Iorpenda (for Kasumu 62) - Made his second-ever Championship appearance. Tried to get on the ball and get some play going but wasn’t exactly awash with passing options most of the time. 5
Bojan Radulovic (for Healey 62) - Took over the thankless task of et cetera et cetera. Had a last glancing header saved. n/a
Josh Koroma (for Ward 62) - Had a couple of efforts on goal and played a decent ball in behind for Iorpenda that the youngster couldn’t quite control. But why are you still reading this? Go outside, the weather is lovely. n/a
Brodie Spencer (for Edwards 75) - Yep fine n/a
Unused substitutes: Lee Nicholls, Giosue Bellagambi, Neo Eccleston, Pat Jones.
