Ratings as Huddersfield Town Women come from behind to beat York
Town Women secured their place in the next round of the FA WNL Cup beating York City 3-1 away from home.
Kacey Bolton-Woollam - 6
Couldn’t do much about York’s goal as it was blasted in to the top corner from close range. Had a couple of crosses to claim and her distribution was simple but effective.
Autumn Housley - 8
Strong on the ball, played a few fantastic looking balls with the outside of her foot down the right flank. Wasn’t troubled defensively, mainly down to her positioning allowing her to easily recover the ball. Timed a couple of last ditch tackles to perfection.
Charlotte Stuart - 7
Thrived in her new role in the heart of a back three. Consistently attempted to play the ball over the top but the ball often ran away on the wet surface. Picked up a booking for a foul on her opponent to deny them getting into the box. Narrowly headed wide from a Mallin free-kick.
Beth Ibbotson - 6
Didn’t have much to do at the back. Had plenty of the ball at her feet, linking up with Stuart and Simone and then playing the ball long to find her forwards.
Caitlin Devins - 6
Diligent in her defensive work on the left. Had a chance on goal in the first half but didn’t generate enough power on her strike to trouble the keeper. Performed well until she was replaced by Mason.
Caz Simone - 6
Had no issues receiving the ball in difficult spots. Found themself on the right side when Beresford and Housley pushed forward. Pockets of space started to appear in the second half, which Simone took full advantage of dropping into.
Beth Stanfield - 6
Relishing her time in midfield. Used her physicality to break up play. Put in a crunching challenge to set the tone of the game early on. Did her job.
Ella Duffield - 6
Persistent in her efforts to get Town on the front foot. Created a few chances, often playing the pass before the pass into the box. Played a part in Town’s third goal.
Rebecca Beresford - 8
Had the run in behind her defender on most occasions. Whipped in a couple of crosses that had a little too much on them but still created chances throughout. Took the ball around the goalkeeper and played the ball into the empty net to give Town their deserved lead.
Kate Mallin - 8
Hit the post in the first half after the goalkeeper spilled the ball to her feet. Put in the corner that Town scored their first from. Set-piece delivery fantastic, as to be expected. Continued her efforts until the final whistle.
Scarlett McMahon - 8
Poked home Town’s equaliser (we think) in a chance where it was harder to miss than score. There was a bundle of bodies and the ball went in, when Scarlett was asked if she scored she said she didn’t know - goal is a goal though, that is all that matters. Had another chance from a Simone cross that she didn’t quite get a hold of.
Substitutes
Yasmin Mason (for Devins 65) - Did really well to break into the box in the last 10 minutes but got her shot all wrong and blazed it over the bar. 6
Ashley Tiripke (for McMahon 75) - Handful for defenders. Came on at the right time to cause a nuisance against her tiring opposition. Had a great chance to score Town’s third but her first touch let her down, but got her goal moments later as she smashed home from the edge of the six yard box. 8
Ellie Lambert (for Beresford 90+5) - Came on in the last few seconds. N/A
Unused substitutes: Mia Jovic.
