Shrewsbury Town v Huddersfield Town called off
The pitch at the New Meadow has failed an inspection in the current freezing temperatures
Huddersfield Town’s scheduled trip to Shrewsbury Town has been called off.
Michael Duff’s side were set to visit the New Meadow for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday, but the pitch at the New Meadow failed a pitch inspection on Friday morning.
With the temperature not forecast to rise above freezing until Saturday afternoon — and even then only briefly — the early decision has been taken to postpone the game.
A club statement said: “Original match tickets will remain valid for this fixture and updates regarding a rescheduled date will be shared in due course with supporters.
“Supporters are advised to no longer make the journey to Shrewsbury this weekend, and we hope you continue to remain safe in the current inclement weather conditions.”
Most of Town’s promotion rivals in League One were already otherwise engaged this weekend in any case due to the effects of the FA Cup third round on the league calendar.
Town are also awaiting a new date for their postponed trip to Wigan Athletic, which was due to take place on New Year’s Day but was called off due to severe flooding in Wigan.
