The early hallmarks of a new Huddersfield Town
Michael Duff's side have made a positive start to the 2024/25 campaign, and we're starting to see some trademark features of their new approach
We should say before we start that we’re not claiming any of this as revolutionary stuff the football world has never seen before. Naturally, the drop in level from the Championship is a factor, and much of what they are doing is about mastering fundamentals.
But as we all know, that alone holds a certain novelty after the past couple of years, so we think it’s worth looking at what Town have done differently to start the season off in winning form.
Central midfielders joining the attack
Ben Wiles’ goal against Stevenage was a great example. The goal came from a quick break forward from the left to the right. Wiles was out on the left wing as Town entered the final third and Antony Evans played the ball out wide to Lasse Sorensen.
Yet Wiles knows exactly where he’s going — to the point that he raises his hand long before entering the box to make sure Sorensen is aware of his presence and the run he is making.
